Spencer Fullerton Baird, Assistant Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, writes six letters to George Lawrence in which he inquires about the Directory for Brooklyn and describes Salvin's wish to send some of his specimens, hunting hawks and owls, and purchasing items for a Mr. Hague.
