Women's Experiences at Dickinson College

Dickinson College was founded in 1783 as an exclusively male institution.  Just over a hundred years later, in 1884, women were permitted to enroll at the college for the first time.  In recognition of the 125th anniversary of that landmark event, this blog aims to document the experiences of Dickinson’s female students.
 
This blog was launched in January 2009 as a team of undergraduate interns and volunteers began to search through the College Archives for information that would help to tell the collective story of the women of Dickinson College.  Updates to this blog will continue on an ongoing basis as additional resources are identified.  We encourage members of the Dickinson community to contribute their stories and knowledge by contacting the College Archives at archives@dickinson.edu or by submitting information using the “comments” feature offered throughout the site.
 
Funding for this project has been provided, in part, by the Dickinson College Research and Development Committee.  Technical assistance was provided by the Instructional and Media Services Department.  This project has also benefitted greatly from the support of the students, alumnae, faculty, and administrators of the College.
