- Economics instructors Sing Huen Morgan and Craig H. Morgan decided to share a single faculty position.
- Biology Professor Paul Biebel took students to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park as part of his "Field Study of Plants" course.
- Wendy Chodash (class of 1978) discussed Women's liberation and what it entailed.
- Instead of stealing the mermaid, members of Wheel and Chain (Blue Hats) replaced it.
- Richard Staar (class of 1948) hosted Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn during his visit to Stanford University.
