Hundreds Protest the Vietnam War
Wed., Oct. 15, 1969
Thirteen hundred students, faculty, and citizens from Carlisle and the surrounding area gathered at the college at 5 pm on Wednesday, October 15, 1969, and marched past the U.S. Army War College to the college recreation land as part of a peace rally in support of military pullout in Vietnam. The march was the highlight of the Vietnam Moratorium day at the college.
The Moratorium day included a service held in memory of all men and women killed in Vietnam, and a teach-in moderated by Anthony Marcson, the Student Mobilization Leader. College President Howard Rubendall, assistant secretary of the Air Force Philip N. Whittaker, and other college faculty discussed various topics relating to the Vietnam War, exploring the complexities of a military pullout, to its relationship to women's liberation and United States imperialism.
