The Work of Montagu Frank Modder
Montagu Frank Modder enjoyed a long and fruitful career as a professor of English. But outside of the classroom, he managed to combine the subject of his vocation with a passion for illustration. Through this website, we are pleased to make available his detailed work, "The Spirit of Britain," which is a text regarding the history and literature of Great Britain that he wrote and illustrated. Also included on this site are a glimpse at his creative process, using portions of his unfinished "Pictorial Shakespeare" as examples, and a selection of his other drawings and political cartoons, the latter of which were printed in various newspapers in the 1940s and 1950s.
Note: This site is no longer updated. Digital copies of "The Spirit of Britain" are available by following this COLLECTION LINK.
