Collegium Musicum Presents "European Expansion, 1492-1792"

The Music Department presented the Collegium Musicum's "European Expansion, 1492-1792: A Sampler of Music from Old and New World" at 3:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed Theodulf, Bishop of Orleans' "Gloria laus et honor tibi sit rex Christe redemptor"; Josquin des Pres' "In te domine speravi" and "Absalon fili mi"; Tomás Luis de Victoria's "Benedictus"; Orlando di Lasso's "Matona, mia carra"; Nicholas Merques' "Pange lingua"; the anonymous 15th century pieces "Elslein, liebstes Elselein", "Ay, luna que reluces", "Cuando el rey Nimrod al campo salía", and "Sine nomine"; F. della Torre's "Danza"; Jacob Obrecht's "Ic draghe de mutse clutse"; Tielman Susato's "Pavane 'Mille regrets'" and "Bransle"; three Spanish pavans from Luis Milan's El Maestro; "Baxa de contrapunto", "Mille regretz", and "Variations on 'Guárdame las vacas'" from Luis de Narvaez's Delphin de música; Alonso Mudarra's "Fantasia que contrahaze la harpa en la manera de Ludovico"; the anonymous 16th century pieces "Tan hermosa y clara" and "Si la noche"; Luis Milan's "Sospirastes Baldovinos"; Juan del Encina's "Soy contento y vos servida" and "Triste España sin ventura"; Cristóbal Morales' "De Antequera sale el moro"; Miguel Fuenllana's "Paseábase el Rey Moro"; Alonso Mudarra's "Triste estava el rey David"; the anonymous pieces "Viv' el gran Rey Don Fernando con la Reyna Don Isabella" and "Hanacpachap"; R. Carlos Nakai's arrangement of a traditional Lakota lullaby for flute, as collected by Frances Densmore; Don Hernando Franco's "Sancta María"; Ann Lee's "Mother Ann's Song"; the anonymous Shaker melody "Dance Tune"; the 16th/17th century French tune "God stelt ons hier"; and William Billings' "Chester".
