The gymnasium is finally outfitted with the proper equipment, as well as a superintendent to instruct students. Two students die over the summer; Samuel Philson Black '89 of Consumption (Tuberculosis), and Charles Bambridge Morse '90 of heart disease. Spencer Fullerton Baird '40, an eminent zoologist and former professor, also dies. Dickinson loses a game of football to Lafayette 0 to 12.
