Carrera Urges Broader View of Sexuality in Lecture

Mon., Oct. 8, 1984

Dr. Michael Carrera urged a broader view of sex and integration of sexuality with life to over 250 students in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium who came to hear him speak. Carrera, sponsored by the Sexuality Resource Group as part of Sexuality Education Week, was a regular columnist for Glamour magazine and winner of the 1984 American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists Annual Award. Carrera acknowledged that a cultural emphasis on physical sex "sets up standards by which people measure themselves. 'And somehow', he concluded, 'they always come up short. They feel inferior." He urged less self-consciousness, saying "what is normal comes from inside of us".
