Mermaid Players' Production of "Antigone" Opens
Antigone, a play by Jean Anouilh, opened in Bosler Hall. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the production ran from December 11-12. In this show, the title role of Antigone was played by Alice Winett.

Anne of the Thousand Days, a play by Maxwell Anderson, opened in the Carlisle High School Auditorium. Presented by the Little Theater of Dickinson College, the production ran from March 5-7. In this show, the title role of Anne was played by Alice Winett.
The Pot Boiler, a one-act play by Alice Gerstenberg, was performed on June 6 in Bosler Hall. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the production was produced and performed by members of the Class of 1953.
The Cardiff Giant, a play by A.M. Drummond and Robert E. Gard, opened in Bosler Hall. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the production ran March 4-5.
Lo and Behold, a comedic play by John Patrick, opened in Bosler Hall. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the show ran from October 14-16.
The Freshman Plays, an annual event featuring a series of one-act plays produced and performed by Dickinson freshmen, was on May 3 at 8:30pm in Meztger Hall. For this production, The Long Voyage Home by Eugene O'Neill and Hello Out There by William Saroyan were performed.
The Taming of the Shrew, a comedy by William Shakespeare, opened. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the show ran from May 13-15 as the group's annual outdoor theatre production.
The Dover Road, a play by A.A. Milne, opened in the Carlisle High School Auditorium. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the production ran from May 5-7. With this show, the last one of the first theatre season under college sposorship, the name "Mermaid Players" was officially adopted.
Jessica Tandy and Hume Cronyn performed Face to Face, a program of dramatic readings, on November 23 at 8:00pm in Bosler Hall. Face to Face featured excerpts from various plays, along with classic and popular poetry and prose. In this show, most pieces were performed by just one actor, though occassionally both performed a number.
Our Town, Thornton Wilder's hit play about American small town life, opened in Bosler Hall. Presented by the Mermaid Players, the show ran from December 1-3. The cast of this production featured mostly freshman and sophomore actors.
Angel Street, a Victorian thriller by Patrick Hamilton, opened in Bosler Hall. Presented by the Mermaid Players, this play was the first laboratory theatre production by the organization. A project in experimental theater, the Lab Theatre intended to present a wider variety of plays that might appeal to more specific audiences in addition to the usual, more formal productions put on by the Players. The event was free and ran from January 11-12.
The fall 2001 Art Historical Methods seminar produced an exhibit entitled "19th-Century Life: A Closer Look" that was on display in the Trout Gallery from January 25th to March 2nd, 2002.
An exhibit entitled "Life in the Ancient World: Works from the Permanent Collection" was on display in the Trout Gallery from September 28th, 2002 to January 11th, 2003.
An exhibit entitled "Jim Dine Prints: Enduring Objects", featuring prints loaned by Dr. Paul M. Kanev, was on display in the Trout Gallery from March 8th to April 13th, 2002.
Selections from the 7th International Shoebox Sculpture Exhibition, organized by the University of Hawaii and featuring shoebox-sized sculpture, were on display in the Trout Gallery from August 9th to September 14th, 2002.
An exhibit of paintings by JoAnne Brown was on display in the Trout Gallery from March 26th to April 8th, 2002.
An exhibit entitled "Crosscurrents in the Mediterranean: European, Islamic, and Hebrew Manuscripts from the Lawrence J. Schoenberg Collection" was on display in the Trout Gallery from September 7th to November 3rd, 2001. It considered "the notion of border crossing from historical, geographic, and cultural perspectives" using Mediterranean works from the medieval and early modern periods.
An exhibit of works by influential resident artists and faculty at Arrowmont School from the first ten years of its art residency program was on display in the Trout Gallery from May 25th to August 8th, 2001.
An exhibit entitled "Selective Visions: The Art of Ralston Crawford" was on display in the Trout Gallery from January 26th to March 3rd, 2001.
The fall 1999 Art Historical Methods seminar created an exhibit simply entitled "Vessels" featuring objects from the permanent collection that was displayed in the Trout Gallery from January 21st to February 26th, 2000.
An exhibit entitled "Curator's Choice: 19th- and 20th-Century Prints from the Denker Collection" was on display in the Trout Gallery from May 20th to August 19th, 2000. The prints were all either loaned or donated by Eric Denker, '95.
An exhibit entitled "Resistance and Affirmation: Prints and Posters of Rupert Garcia" was on display in the Trout Gallery from November 5th, 1999 to January 15th, 2000.
An exhibit entitled "East Meets West: The Art of Sozan Matsuba and Rene Boll" was on display in the Trout Gallery from March 3rd to April 8th, 2000.
An exhibit entitled "Writing on Hands: Memory and Knowledge in Early Modern Europe" that considered "the hand as a meeting place of matter, mind, and spirit" was on display in the Trout Gallery from September 8th to November 25th, 2000. It then moved to the Folger Shakespeare Library.
The senior studio art majors presented an exhibition of their work entitled "Evidence" that was on display in the Trout Gallery from May 8th to May 14th, 2000.
