  • Captain Ralph E. Lower (class of 1944), a veteran of the Second World War, was killed while serving with the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea.
  • William R. Woodward (class of 1934) received a patent for an instrument to a ship's position at sea.
  • Several Dickinsonians won seats in the House of Representatives, including S. Walter Stauffer (class of 1912) and Edward J. Bonin (class of 1833).
  • The first edition of Dickinson College Service Plates, which featured designs of Old West, the Old Stone Steps, East College, and Denny Hall, were released for sale by the Wedgwood company in England.
  • The Library Guild created two memorial library funds with donations of almost $5,500.
  • Sidney W. Bookbinder (class of 1935) was elected National Judge Advocate of the Jewish War Veterans of the United States.

  • The Class of 1952 provided funding for an electric score board at Biddle Field.
  • The dedication ceremony for Drayer Hall, which had a dining room for 200 students on the lower floor as well as a lounge with fireplaces and a grand piano, was held on Founders Day in May 1952.
  • M. Brandt Goodyear, who entered the College as a member of the Class of 1919, graduated with the Class of 1952 after taking a thirty year gap to serve as an officer in the US Army.
  • Around 200 students, including 83% of the men in the Class of 1956, enrolled in the Army ROTC unit at Dickinson.
  • Dr. Paul E. Smith (class of 1930) was sent to Iraq by the US State Department to assist with the implementation of the Four Point Program.
  • President William W. Edel (class of 1915) became an honorary Freeman of the City of Carlisle, England.

  • President William W. Edel (class of 1915) announced at the annual dinner of the Dickinson Club of Baltimore that the new women's dorm would be named Drayer Hall, in honor of Summer N. Drayer (class of 1902) and his wife Agnes Pettigrew-Drayer.
  • Alured C. Ransom was named director of athletics and football coach.
  • Dr. Frederic W. Ness (class of 1933) was appointed as Dean of College.
  • Dr. Hugh Stott Taylor received the first Joseph Priestley Award.

Selected Highlights from this Issue
  • The College announced plans to establish an annual Joseph Priestley Award.
  • The College acquired a collection of 3,000 letters and documents related to the Civil War period in Pennsylvania from Edwin G. Dill Sr., in memory of his father Andrew Hemphill Dill (class of 1855).
  • Eight women, five of them alumnae, were selected to receive honorary degrees during the dedication ceremony for the new women's dormitory on the Rush Campus.
  • The State Department selected Dr. Lewis H. Rohrbaugh (class of 1930) to direct the Point Four Program in Iraq.
  • Slater System, Inc., took over the operation of all College dining rooms, except in fraternity houses.
