Open Forum on Alcohol Policy
Tue., Apr. 17, 1984
Student Senate held an open forum regarding new recommendations made by the Student Affairs and Services Committee (SASC) regarding the 1984-85 alcohol policy. Brian Abraham, Student Senate vice-president, and Sandy Kemp, chairperson of the SASC answered student questions about their recommendations. The SASC was an advisory committee and cannot pass policy, yet wanted to use the open forum as a chance to hear feedback. Suggested provisions included providing nonalcoholic beverages in equal quantities at events where alcohol is served, prohibiting kegs, prohibiting using college funds to purchase alcohol, prohibiting alcohol at parties in College-run residence halls, prohibiting alcohol from being awarded as a prize in contests or raffles, and prohibiting alcohol in excess of 100 proof. The last recommendation specifically raised a storm of protest.
