Symposium on Financial and Moral Problems of Colleges and Universities
Fri., Oct. 20, 1933
College presidents and professors from 50 institutions mainly in New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland gathered in Allison Memorial church to discuss problems related to tuition, student loans, scholarships and deferred payment plans. In addition, participants expressed disapproval of the unethical methods that some institutions used to gain money. Participants also discussed the "spiritual problem" of colleges in United States, concluding that US colleges need to return to how "southern colleges were [like] right after the civil war." The secretary-treasurer of the Association of College Presidents of Pennsylvania facilitated the discussion on the "spiritual problem."
