At the ceremony, Eric A. Larrabee, Journalist, gave an address on "The Rediscovery of America." After the convocation a wreath-laying ceremony took place in the Old Graveyard.

U.S. Senator for Pennsylvania Hugh Scott, former chairman of the Republican National Committee from 1948-49, addressed the College as part of its 1959 Commencement exercises. Senator Scott also received an honorary degree from the College.

James R. Shepley, journalist and CEO of Time Inc. from 1969-80, received an honorary degree as part of the College's 1959 Commencement exercises.

The Rev. Dr. John Sutherland Bonnell, pastor of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, received an honorary degree as part of the College's 1960 Commencement exercises.
