1955 Founders' Day Concert

Thu., Apr. 28, 1955

The annual Founders' Day Concert was presented by the College Choir at 8:00pm in Bosler Hall. They were joined by Conway Hall alumnus John Charles Thomas and members of the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra opened the concert with Mozart's "Overture" from The Marriage of Figaro. The choir then sang Mozart's "Motet, 'Ave Verum Corpus'" and Frank's "Psalm CL". Next, Thomas performed James Rogers' "The Time for Making Song has Come", Easthorpe Martin's "Rolling Along Home", Cyril Scott's arrangement of "Lord Randall", Jacques Wolfe's "Gwine to Heaven", and Dvorak's "Goin' Home". The choir returned to the stage to sing two more songs: Fox's "The Hills of Home" and Ward's "America the Beautiful". The first half of the show concluded with the orchestra playing Bizet's "Carmen Suite". The second half of the Founders' Day Concert began with the orchestra playing Smetria's "Dance of the Comedians". For the second half of the show, the choir sang Lieurance's "Medicine Dance", Mac Gimsey's "Shadrack", and Mendelssohn's "Festival Song of Praise". The orchestra concluded the concert with Struass' "The Blue Danube Waltz".
