College Choir Presents "Music for a French Christmas"

Sun., Dec. 11, 1966

The College Choir presented their winter concert, "Music for a French Christmas", in the Little Theater in the HUB at 3:00pm. Featuring music from the Renaissance to the modern day, soloists and musicians performed in addition to the chorus. They opened their concert with five French Noels arranged by Elliot Forbes: "Joseph est bien marie", "Tous les bourgeois de Chastres", "Ou s'en vont ces gais bergers?", "A la venue de Noel", and "A Minuit fut fail un reveil". The program continued with Marc Antoine Charpentier's "Magnificat anima mea", Guillaume Costeley's "Allons gay bergeres!" and "Sus, debout, gentilz pasteurs!", and Hector Berlioz's "The Shepherds' Farewell to the Holy Family" from L'Enfance du Christ. Without pause, the choirs then sang Francois Poulenc's "Four Motets for Christmas": "O Magnum Mysterium", "Quem vidistis pastores?", "Videntes stellam", and "Hodie Christus natus est". They concluded their show with the old French carol "Angels We Have Heard on High".
