Musical Representations of the Underground Railroad

The African American Society, the Central Pennsylvania Consortium, the Community Studies Center, the Dean of Students OFfice, and the Office of Diversity and Social Issues co-sponsored "Musical Representations of the Underground Railroad," a presentation on the Underground Railroad in southcentral Pennsylvania featuring historical commentary by Sharon O'Brien and musical performances by the College Choir and tenor Christyan Seay.  Songs performed included selections from Robert Owens' cycle "Mortal Storm"; Owens' "A House in Taos" and "Jaime"; H.T. Burleigh's "Were I a Star" and "Among the Fushsais"; Wynn Boyd's "Love's Phases," "A Song," and "Beyond the Years"; Roland Hayes' "Lit'l Boy"; Robert McGimsey's "Shadrach"; Rene Clausen's arrangement of "Plenty Good Room"; and Andre J. Thomas' arrangements of "The Drinking Gourd" and "Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning."
