Opening Convocation for the 2007-2008 Academic Year

This year's opening ceremony was held on Sunday, August 26, 2007 at 4:00 pm. The academic procession began in Britton Plaza and ended in front of Old West. Following the Convening of the College, new students were presented and new faculty and administrative staff were introduced. The Senior and Junior Sophisters were recognized for outstanding academic achievement and the Shuman Prizes were given out. Greetings were given by the president of Student Senate. Remarks were given by the co-winners of the 2007 Ganoe Award for Inspirational Teaching Jeffrey W. Niemitz and Teresa A. Barber. President Durden gave an address on "The Defining Dimensions of a Dickinson Education." Finally, new students climbed the steps of Old West and signed into the college. Faculty promotions, new appointments, and honor prizes and scholarships were announced. Dana Scholars were also recognized.
