This convocation service, focused on the importance of public service, was held in Old West. George Gaylord Simpson, now regarded as one of the most influential paleontologists of the 20th century, gave the Founders Day address. Several people were recognized for distinguished public service.
New faculty members and foreign students were introduced, and scholarship awards were presented. President Rubendall gave his presidential address. Faculty promotions, college sophisters and prize awards were all announced.
