1985 Chamber Orchestra Winter Concert

The Department of Music presented the Chamber Orchestra in a concert at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. They played Georg F. Handel's Water Music Suite, Johann Sebastian Bach's "Laudamus Te", Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto in A Minor", Carl Maria von Weber's "Concertino for solo clarinet and orchestra", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra in C Major". 

Deborah Milan Performs

Cellist Deborah Milan gave a concert at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Accompanied by pianist Mark Nailor, Milan played Giuseppe Valentini's "Sonata in E Major", Benjamin Britten's "Suite for Cello", Alexander Scriabin's "Etude No. 5 in C-sharp Minor", Frederic Chopin's "Scherzo in B Minor", and Johannes Brahms' "Sonata No. 2 in F Major".

The Department of Music presented the College Choir, College-Community Orchestra, Brass Ensemble, and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet in the 1984 Christmas Concert at 3:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Tomas Luis de Victoria's "Ne Timeas Maria and "O Magnum Mysterium", Rafaella Aleotti's "Angelus ad Pastores ait" and "Facta est cum Angelo", Heinrich Schutz's "Lobe den Herren, Meine Seele", Benjamin Britten's "A Ceremony of Carols", Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on Greensleeves", and excerpts from Piotr I. Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the fourth Noonday Concert of the 1984-1985 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall. Students and faculty performed three anonymously-written pieces entitled "Dime robadora", "Holla hoi per lanerta hoi", and "There is no rose"; Pierre Sandrin's "Douce Memoire"; Antoine Busnois' "Fortuna desperata"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Flosst, mein Heiland"; Philippe Gaubert's "Divertissement grec"; Ludwig van Beethoven's "Variations on Ich Denke Dein"; Georg Philipp Telemann's "Suite in D Minor"; and Franz Joseph Haydn's "String Quartet in E-flat Major". 

Buzz Jones Big Band Performs

They played George Gershwin's "Strike up the Band" and "I've got a Crush on You", Don Sebesky's "Big Mamma Cass", Duke Ellington's "Don't get around Much Anymore" and "Caravan", Billie Holiday's "God Bless the Child", Josef Zawinul's "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy", Erroll Garner's "Misty", Louis Prima's "Sing, Sing, Sing", Bob Mintzer's "Good News", Jerome's "Smoke gets in Your Eyes", and Billy Strayhorn's "Take the A Train". 

Faculty Guitar Recital

The Department of Music presented classical guitarist Nathaniel Gunod in a faculty recital at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Accompanied by Amy Rosser on harpsichord, Gunod played Rudolf Straube's "Sonata III", Louis Couperin's "Pieces de clavecin en fa majeur", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Toccata in E Minor", Giovanni Pittoni's "Sonata VII" from Intavolatura di Tiorbi, S.L. Weiss' "Tombeau sur la Mort", Napoleon Coste's "La Ronde de Mai", Leo Brouwer's "Danze Caracteristica", and Nicola Matteis' "Suite in G Major".

Students and faculty performed Scott Whittle's "Study on Ode to Joy", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Sonata in F Minor", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Variations on La ci darem la mano" and "String Quartet in G Major", Louise Farrenc's "Trio in E Minor", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Serenade in E-flat Major".

Music Department Presents "Symbolism in Song"

They performed Gabriel Faure's "Clair de Lune" and "En Sourdine"; Reynaldo Hahn's "L'Heure exquise"; Claude Debussy's "C'est l'extase", "Il pleure dans mon coeur", and "Soupir"; Henri Duparc's "L'Invitation du Voyage"; Arnold Schoenberg's "Hain in diesen Paradiesen" and "Saget mir, auf welchem Pfade"; and Samuel Barber's "Tombeau dans un parc" and "Depart".
