Pong-Hi Park Performs

She played Chopin's "Nocturne in E-flat Major", "Nocturne in F-sharp Major", "Nocturne in F Major", "Fantasie-Impromptu in C-sharp Minor", "Ballade in G Minor", and "Grande Valse Brillante in E-flat Major". 

Bilger Duo Performs

The Bilger Duo, comprised of David V. Bilger on alto saxophone and Dorinne P. Bilger on piano, gave a concert in Rubendall Recital Hall. They played J.F. Fasch's "Sonata", Henk Badings' "La Malinconia", Paul Creston's "Sonata for alto saxophone and piano", Walter Hartley's "Duo for alto saxophone and piano", Henry Cowell's "Air and Scherzo for alto saxophone and piano", a medley of music from George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess, and Franz Schubert's "The Bee". 

Senior Oboe Recital

She played Gordon Jacob's "Sonatina", Carl Stamitz's "Quartet in F Major", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Arias for Contralto and Oboe Obligato", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Trio Sonata in E Minor", and Emile Paladilhe's "Solo Pour Hautbois". 

John Eaken Performs

Accompanied by Susan Eaken on piano, he played Guiseppe Tartini's "Variations on a theme of Corelli"; Ludwig van Beethoven's "The Spring"; Eugene Ysaye's "Sonata for violin solo"; Bela Bartok's "Joc cu Bata", "Braul", "Pe Loc", "Buciumeana", "Poarga Romaneasca", and "Maruntel"; Fritz Kreisler's "Love Song" and "Viennese Caprice"; and Pablo de Sarasate's "Gypsy Melodies".

In this "April Fool's Concert of Chamber Music", students and faculty performed P.D.Q. Bach's "Fanfare for the Common Cold", "Panther Dance", "The Queen to Me a Royal Pain Doth Give", and "My Bonnie Lass she Smelleth"; W.A. Mozart's "The Ribbon Trio", "Warning", "Caro mio Squeeze and Sip", and "Sonata Tamperata e truncata"; Diabalone Corelli's "Sonata for Euphonium Obbligato and Mandolin Soprano Continuo"; and J. Haydn's "Trumpet Concerto in E-flat Major". 

Music Department Presents "Amadeus Versatilis"

The Department of Music presented the students of Professor Frederick Urrey in Amadeus Versatilis, a concert of vocal music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. They sang "Luci care, luci belle", "Se lontan ben mio tu sei", "Piu non si trovano fra mille amanti", excerpts from Don Giovanni, excerpts from Die Zauberflote, "Zufriedenheit", "Komm liebe Zither", excerpts from Le Nozze di Figaro, "Das Bandl-Terzett", "Warnung", "Caro mio Druck und Schluck", "Sub tuum praesidium", "Laudate Dominum", and "Ave Verum".

Golson's "Killer Joe", C. Porter's "Begin the Beguine", D. Chesky's "Bag Lady", Allen/Sanger's "Everything Old in New Again", T. Jones' "Big Dipper", and T. Scott's "Dirty Old Man". 

Chamber Orchestra Presents Concert of Baroque and Classical Music

The Chamber Orchestra, in conjunction with the Eaken String Quartet and tenor Frederick Urrey, gave a concert of baroque and classical music in Rubendall Recital Hall at 8:00pm. They played G.H. Stolzel's Concerto Grosso a quattro chori; Giuseppe Tartini's "Devil's Trill"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Es kann mir nicht geschehen"; George F. Handel's "Look Down Harmonious Saint"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Serenade in D Major for Solo String Quartet and Orchestra", "Dalla sua pace", and "Il mio tesoro"; and Franz J. Haydn's "Hornsignal".

Dedicatory Recital

A dedicatory recital of music and poetry was given in honor of Professor Friedrich and Mary Sandels at the Emil R. Weiss Center for Music and Art. The program included a reading of German Lyric Poetry, Franz Schubert's "An die Musik" and "Wanderers Nachtlied", Robert Schumann's "Die Beiden Grenadiere", and Georg Philipp Telemann's "Concerto a tre for flute, horn and continuo". Following the concert, a dedication ceremony was held on the second floor of the Weiss Center where refreshments were served.

Students and faculty performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Andante in F Major", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Quintet in E-flat Major", Bernhard Molique's "Flute Concerto in D Minor", Sergei Taneyev's "From Ages Past Music was Suddenly Heard" and "Stars", and Ralph Vaughn Williams' "The Dark Eyed Sailor" and "Just as the Tide was Flowing".

The department faculty performed on Marin Marais' "Les Folies d'Espagne", Johann Joachim Quantz's "Trio Sonata in C Major", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Fantasy in D Major", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Cantata 211", Ulysses Kay's "Suite for Flute and Oboe", and Mauro Giuliani's "Grand Sonata in A Major for Flute and Guitar".  

Choirs and Orchestra Present "Music of the Romantic Age in Russia"

The College Choir, Chamber Choir, and College-Community Orchestra gave a concert entitled "Music of the Romantic Age in Russia" at 3:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Modest Petrovich Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition and "Coronation Scene" from Boris Godunov, Pyotr Il'ich Tchaikovsky's "Vale Scherzo for Violin and Orchestra" and Eugene Onegin, and Sergei Ivanovich Taneyev's "From Ages Past Music was Suddenly Heard!".

Ten Have's "Allegro Brilliante", Frederic Chopin's "Etude in A-flat Major" and "Ballade No. 2 in F Major", Luigi Boccherini's "Duet for two violins in G Major", Carl Maria von Weber's "Concerto No. 1 in F Minor", Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto in F Major for three violins and continuo", and Georg Philipp Telemann's "Concerto in G Major for four violins and continuo".

Students and faculty performed two fanfares by Irving Bush; Richard Strauss' "Serenade"; Claude Debussy's "Syrinx" and "La plus que lent"; Francis Poulenc's "Sonata for Flute and Piano"; three violin duets by Dmitri Shostakovich; Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Infant Joy", "The Piper", "The Lamb", "Cruelty has a Human Heart", and "The Divine Image"; and Dennis Slavin's "Two Movements for Wind Quartet".
