  • The President's Commission on Campus Unrest, also known as the Scranton Commission, issued their report. The Alumnus discussed the commissions' conclusions as well as the reaction from faculty and students.
  • The Alumnus included an article from U.S. News & World Report , titled "Money Crisis For Colleges: Why."
  • Thomas W. Richards (class of 1950) helped purchase over 60,000 acres of "ecologically important" as part of his work for the Nature Conservancy.

  • Actor Fred A. Morsell (class of 1962) returned to Dickinson to work with Dramatic Arts Professor Dave Brubaker and perform in Shakespeare's Richard III.
  • Professor Joseph Schiffman discussed his study of Henry David Thoreau.
  • Samuel W. Witwer (class of 1930) was elected as President of the recently convened Illinois Constitutional Convention.
