The Music Department presented "Resounding Influences," with Professor Ralph Zitterbart of Carnegie Mellon University, at 7:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The program included Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude in E flat minor, WTC Book I," Domenico Scarlatti's "Sonata in E Major, L. 23" and "Sonata in B minor, L. 449," Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Fantasy in D minor, K. 397," Claude Debussy's "La fille aux cheveux de lin" and "L'Isle joyeuse," Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata in E Major, Op. 109," and Nancy Galbraith's "Piano Sonata no. 1".

The Music Department presented a Noonday Concert in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Sonata in E minor, KV 304" and "Divertimento in Bb", Robert Schumann's "Piano Concerto in A minor", Jake Heggie's "It Makes No Difference Abroad", Lori Laitman's "I'm Nobody", Doug Beach's "Cream of the Crop", and Les Taylor's "Fudge Said the Judge".

Duo Paganini

The Music Department presented "Duo Paganini," a concert by violinist Nancy Bean and classical guitarist Allen Krantz, at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The guo performed Fernando Sor's "Romanesco", Niccoló Paganini's "Centone di Sonate no. 1", Gabriel Fauré's "Pavane and Berceuse", Francisco Tárrega's "Five Pieces for Solo Guitar", Johannes Brahms' "Hungarian Dance no. 5", Allen Krantz's "Nocturne for Viola and Guitar, op. 23", Agustin Barrios' "The Last Song", and Astor Piazzolla's "Histoire du Tango".

Collegium Musicum Christmas Concert 2001

The Music Department presented the Collegium Musicum's 2001 Christmas concert at 7:00pm on Sat., Dec. 8 and at 4:00pm on Sun., Dec. 9 in Memorial Hall.  The ensemble performed Thomas Tallis' "O nata lux de lumine", Henry Purcell's "My Soul Doth Magnify the Lord" and "Lord, now lettest Thou Thy servant", Morton Lauridsen's "O nata lux de lumine", William Byrd's "Justorum animae", the anonymous carol "There is no rose", J. Rutter's arrangement of the Appalachian carol "I wonder as I wander", the 16th century carol "Swete was the song the Virgin sang" (arr. T. Hamond), J.H.

Villanueva), Paul Taffanel's "Grande Fantaisie", William Byrd's "Justorum animae", Benjamin Britten's "As dew in Aprille" and "This little Babe", Steve Reich's "Clapping Music", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Quartet in F Major, K. 387", and Arthur Frackenpohl's arrangement "A Christmas Jazz Suite".

Tom Dupin), and Sammy Nestico's "Switch in Time".

Symphonic Band Performs

The Music Department presented a concert by the Symphonic Band at 4:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  The band performed Henry Fillmore's "Americans We", Alfred Reed's "A Jubilant Overture", Leroy Anderson's "Belle of the Ball", Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Toccata Marziale", Warren Barker's "Broadway Show-Stoppers Overture", Cecile Chaminade's "Concertino for Flute", L.J.F. Herold's "Zampa Overture", selections from The Phantom of the Opera (arr. Warren Barker), and the "Armed Forces Salute" (arr. Bob Lowden).

A Concert to Benefit the 9-11 Scholarship

The Music Department presented an evening of chamber music in a concert to benefit Dickinson's 9-11 Scholarship at 7:30pm at the Carlisle Theatre.  The Corigliano Quartet performed Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings," George Gershwin's "Lullaby", Philip Glass' "String Quartet no. 3", Duke Ellington's "Fantasy", John Newton's "Amazing Grace", and John Dickinson's "The Liberty Song".

College Choir Performs

The Music Department presented a Noonday Concert in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Henry Cowell's "Lilt of the Reel"; Gabriel Grovlez's "Concertino"; Norman Gimbel, Charles Fox, and Lori Lieberman's "Killing Me Softly"; Cole Porter's "Don't Fence Me In"; Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise, op. 34, no. 14", Johann Sebastian Bach/Zoltán Kodály's "Fantasia Cromatica"; the 15th century English piece "Go, Little Bill!"; Brian Wilson's "God Only Knows" (arr. Elvis Costello); and John Philip Sousa's "El Capitan" (arr. J. Villanueva).

The Music Department presented 2001's Ewing Concert, funded by the Cecil Andrew and Adeleine Ewing Endowment, featuring Cecilia's Circle, at 7:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed Barbara Strozzi's "Amor Dormiglione", "Non volete", "Appresso", "Salve Regina", "I Baci", and "Begl'occhi bel seno" and Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre's "Prelude in g minor", "Judith", "Toccade in F Major", "Sonata in d minor for violin", and "Le Sommeil d'Ulisse".

The Music Department presented "Borders Crossed, Boundaries Found," a faculty recital by pianist Jennifer Blyth, at 7:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Blyth performed Robias Picker's "Old and Lost Rivers", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Variations on the French folk tune 'Ah, vous dirai-je Maman' K265", Ferruccio Busoni's arrangement "Bach Chaconne in d minor", Frederic Rzewski's "Mayn Yingele", and Franz Liszt's "Totentanz" and "Variations on the medieval plainsong 'Dies Irae'".

The Music Department presented a Noonday Concert in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Performance Studies faculty performed Gabriel Fauré's "Sonata no. 1, op. 13 in A Major", Franz Liszt's "Totentanz", Dusan Bogdanovic's "Mysterious Habitats", Georges Guilhaud's "First Concertino", Jake Heggie's arrangements of the folks songs "Barbara Allen" and "The Leather-Winged Bat", Paul Hindemith's "Sonata for Cello Solo, op. 25, no. 3", David Zygmunt's "Improv for Miles", George Gershwin's "Lullaby", and Franz Joseph Haydn's "Quinten, op. 76, no. 2".

The Dickinson College Music Society presented a Sophomore Performance Majors Recital at 3:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The program included Johann Sebastian Bach's "Concerto in d minor for Two Violins", Frédéric Chopin's "Nocturne, op. 27, no. 2", Claude Debussy's "Clair de lune", Béla Bartók's "Sonatina", François Poulenc's "Sonata for Two Clarinets", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Adagio from Clarinet Concerto", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata in F Major, op. 54", and Vittorio Monti's "Csárdás".

Olson), Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Russian Easter Festival Overture", Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Symphony no. 5 'Reformation'", Tana Schiewer's "The Journey", and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Dona Nobis Pacem".
