College Choir and College-Community Orchestra Perform "The Creation"

The Music Department presented Franz Joseph Haydn's three-part oratorio The Creation, featuring the Dickinson College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra, at 8:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium on Sat., Apr. 17, as well as in Old St. Paul's Church in Baltimore, Maryland at 3:30pm on Sun., Apr. 18.

Brass Ensemble Presents "A Salute to American Composers"

The Music Department presented "A Salute to American Composers" featuring the Brass Ensemble at 7:30pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed Leonard Lebow's "Suite for Brass", Billy Joel's "Longest Time", Vaclav Nelhybel's "Three Intradas for Brass Choir", Arthur Pryor's "Blue Bells of Scotland", Josef Zawinul's "Birdland", and Luther Henderson's arrangement of "The Saints' Hallelujah", along with selections from Leonard Bernstein's West Side Story, jazz standards from George Gershwin, and others.

The Music Department presented a Noonday Concert in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Joseph Jongen's "Elégie for flute quartet"; Samuel Adler's "Happily"; Aaron Copland's "The Little Horses" and "The Golden Willow Tree"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Piano Concerto in A major, No. 23, K. 488"; Gabriel Fauré's "Nell"; Claude Debussy's "Nuit d'Etoiles"; Sir C.V. Stanford's "Cuttin' Rushes"; George Frideric Handel and Johann Halvorsen's "Passacaglia for violin and viola"; and "What You Don't Know About Women" from City of Angels.

James Hontz Performs

The Music Department presented a faculty recital by classical guitarist James Hontz at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Hontz performed Fernando Sor's "Introductions and Variations on a Theme by Mozart, Op. 9"; Francisco Tárrega's "Danza Mora"; Hans Werner Henze's "Drei Tentos"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude, Fugue, and Allegro BWV 998"; Benjamin Britten's "Nocturnal, Op. 70"; John Dowland's "Dr. Case's Pavan"; Manuel M. Ponce's "Sonatina meridional".

Beth Bullard and Allen Krantz Perform

The Music Department presented a concert of flute and guitar music featuring flutist Beth Bullard and classical guitarist Allen Krantz at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The pair performed Maurice Ravel's "Pièce en forme de habanera"; Jacques Ibert's "Entr'acte"; George Frideric Handel's "Sonata in E minor (Halle sonata no. 2) for Baroque flute and continuo"; a traditional Lakota Sioux melody collected by Frances Densmore and as performed by R. The Music Department presented a senior recital by double bassist Anneke Cooper, accopmanied by pianist Gloria Whitney and cellist Nancy Baun, at 3:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Cooper performed Johann Christian Bach's "Adagio", Karl Ditters von Dittersdorf's "Concerto", Giovanni Bottesini's "Elegy", Serge Koussevitzky's "Valse Miniature", and Gioacchino Rossini's "Duetto per violoncello e contrabasso".

The Music Department presented at Noonday Concert in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Fritz Kreisler's "Tambourin chinois"; Benjamin Britten's arrangement of the Somerset folk song "The trees they grow so high"; Manuel de Falla's "Nana" and "El Paño Moruno"; Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Quartet in A minor, op. 13"; Franz Schubert's "Fantaisie in F minor for piano four hands, Op. 103"; and Leonard Bernstein and Jean Anouilh's The Lark. 

Chamber Orchestra Performs

The Music Department presented a concert by the Chamber Orchestra at 8:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The orchestra performed George Frideric Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks", Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Sérénade mélancolique (op. 26)", Max Bruch's "Kol nidre (op. 47)", Ari Magnusson's "Movement I: Departure", David Glasgow's "Edmund", and Andrew G. Krall's "Studies on Two South Indian Themes for string orchestra and percussion".

Nancy Baun Performs

The Music Department presented a faculty recital by cellist Nancy Baun, accompanied by pianist Gloria Whitney, at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Baun performed Johannes Brahms' "Sonata No. 1 in E minor, Op. 38", Ernest Chausson's "Pièce pour Violincelle et Piano, Op. 39", and Luigi Boccherini's "Concerto in B-flat major".
