Eaken Piano Trio Residency Recital

The Eaken Piano Trio performed four concerts on Apr. 7, 8, 9, and 11 as part of the Residency Concert Series, the first at Rubendall Recital Hall at 8:15pm.  The trio performed Franz Joseph Haydn's "Trio No. VI in D major, Hob. XV: 24", George Rochberg's "Trio for Piano, Violin, and Violoncello", and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Trio No. 7 in B-flat major".

College-Community Orchestra Performs Children's Concert

The College-Community Orchestra performed a children's concert at 3:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium, with special performances by David Brubaker, the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, and violinist Patty Chang.  The orchestra performed Serge Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf", Fritz Kreisler's "Praeludium and Allegro", Camille Saint-Saëns' "Carnival of the Animals", Riccardo Drigo's "Harlequinade Pas de Deux", and Gioacchino Rossini's "William Tell Overture".

Noonday Concert

The Music Department presented a Noonday Concert in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Ludwig van Beethoven's "Quintet in E-flat major, Op. 16", William Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan's "When You're Lying Awake" and "The Flowers That Bloom in Spring", Josquin des Prez's "El Grillo", the anonymously written piece "Propter bonos geschwenkes", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Vedrai Carino", Gabriel Fauré's "Aurore", George Rochberg's "Trio for Piano, Violin, and Violoncello", Eric Douglas' "Nothing Gold Can Stay", and René Clausen's arrangement of "The Water is Wide".

Faculty Recital

The Music Department presented a recital by clarinet player Ella Forsyth, mezzo-soprano Brenda Smith, and pianist Kee Mann Chang at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Pieces performed included Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Parto, ma tu ben mio"; Johannes Brahms' "O wüsst' ich doch den Weg zurück", "Wie Melodien zieht es mir", "Feldeinsamkeit", and "Botschaft"; Arnold Bax's "Sonata for Clarinet and Piano"; and Franz Schubert's "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen".

Senior Recital

The Music Department presented a senior recital by violinist Richard Amoroso, accopmanied by Gloria Whitney, at 3:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Amoroso performed Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata No. 1", Igor Stravinsky's "Suite Italienne", Claude Debussy's "The Girl with the Flaxen Hair", Henri Wieniawski's "Polonaise", and Claude Bolling's "Baroque in Rhythm" and "Cello Fan".

Chamber Orchestra Performs

The Music Department presented a concert by the Chamber Orchestra in a benefit for the Carlisle Theatre Project at 8pm in the Weiss Center for the Arts.  The orchestra performed Gioacchino Rossini's overture from The Barber of Seville, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Sinfonia Concertante for violin and viola, K. 364", and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's "Concerto for violin and orchestra in D major, Op. 35".

John Eaken Performs

The Music Department presented a faculty recital by violinist John Eaken, accompanied by pianist Gloria Whitney, at 8:15pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Eaken performed Giuseppi Tartini's "Sonata in G minor 'Le trille du diable'", Niccolò Paganini's "Caprice in C minor, Op. 1, No. 4", Henri Wieniawski's "Légende, Op. 17", Pablo de Sarasate's "Caprice Basque, Op. 24", Fritz Kreisler's "Caprice Viennoise, Op. 2", and Eugène Ysaÿe's "'Les Furies' from the Sonata, Op. 27, No. 2".

The Music Department presented an "All-Mozart Concert" featuring the Dickinson College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra at 8:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  The pieces performed, all written by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, included "Voi che sapete", "Non so più", "Un aura amorosa", "Un wie ängstlich", "Hai già vinta la causa!", "Vedrò mentr'io sospiro", "Durch Zärtlichkeit", "Bester Jüngling", and the Requiem Mass, K. 626.
