Allen Krantz Performs

The Music Department presented a concert by guitarist Allen Krantz at 8:15 in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Krantz performed Sylvius Leopold Weiss' "Allemande", "Passapied", and "Gavotte"; Mauro Giuliani's "Sonatina op. 71"; Domenico Scarlatti's "Four Sonatas"; Maurice Ravel's "Pavane"; Joaquin Turina's "Fandaguillo"; and Isaac Albeniz's "Mallorca" and "Rumores de Caleta".

Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir Perform

Eaken Piano Trio Performs

The Music Department presented a performance by the Eaken Piano Trio, featuring bassoon and harpsichord player Truman Bullard, mezzo-soprano Brenda Smith Barrett, and clarinet player Ella Forsyth, at 3:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The trio performed Wolfgang Amadeus' Mozar's "Sonate for Bassoon and Violoncello, K. 292", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Erbarme dich, mein Gott", Paul Hindemith's "Quartet for Clarinet, Violin, Cello, and Piano", and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Trio in C minor, op. 66".

1990 Parents Day Concert

Britten-Pears Ensemble Performs

The Harrisburg Civic Opera presented a concert by the Britten-Pears Ensemble at Rubendall Recital Hall at 8:15pm.  The ensemble performed Benjamin Britten's "Rhapsody for a string quartet", Frank Martin's "Quatre Sonnets à Cassandre". Claude Debussy's "Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp", Paul Hindemith's "Die junge Magd op. 23 no. 2", Maurice Ravel's "Introduction and Allegro", and Richard Rodney Bennett's "Gershwin Arrangement".

The Music Department presented its second Noonday Concert of the 1990-1991 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Luigi Boccherini's "Allegro from the Viola Concerto in G major, no. 3" and "Concerto in B-flat minor"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Gavotte from Partita no. 3 in E major"; Jerome Kessler's "Kol Nidre"; and Ralph Vaughan Williams' arrangement of the English folk songs "The Dark-Eyed Sailor", "The Springtime of the Year", "Just as the Tide was Flowing", and "The Lover's Ghost".

Renaissance City Winds Perform

The Music Department presented a performance by the Renaissance City Winds at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The woodwind quintet performed Georg Friedrich Handel's "Suite from The Water Music", Johann Sebastian Bach's "'Little' Fugue in G minor, BWV 578", Paul Hindemith's "Kleine Kammermusik, Op. 24 No. 2", Robert Washburn's "Three Pieces for Three Woodwinds", Johannes Brahms' "Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Handel", and Scott Joplin's "The Easy Winners".

Tina Chancey Performs

The Central Pennsylvania Consortium presented a concert by Tina Chancey, pardessus de viole, accompanied by harpsichordist Peter Marshall, at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Chancey performed Jean Barrier's "Sonata IV", J.S. Bach's "Concerto in C major, BWV 977", Arcangelo Corelli's "Sonata V", François Couperin's "Concert Royal" and "Pièces de la 6ème Ordre", and Jean-Marie Leclair's "Sonata II".

Chamber Orchestra Presents "All-Beethoven Program"

The Music Department presented the Chamber Orchestra's "All-Beethoven Program" at 8:00pm in the Weiss Center for the Arts.  The orchestra performed "Overture", "Melodrama", and "Siegessymphonic", all from Egmont (op. 84); "Marcia funebie, Adagio assai" from Symphony No. 3 in Eb Major ("eroica"); and "Concerto for violin and orchestra (op. 61)", all by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Twentieth-Century Music Ensemble Presents "A Concert of Twentieth-Century Music"

The Music Department presented a spring concert by the Symphonic Band at 3:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  The ensemble performed John Philip Sousa's "The Fairest of the Fair", "The Rifle Regiment March", and "Stars and Stripes Forever"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "The Impresario"; Alfred Reed's "A Jubilant Overture"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in D Minor"; Gustav Holet's "Second Suite for Military Band in F Major"; and Al Hages' "Best Loved Southern Melodies".
