Performances, Films, and Exhibits

The Music Department presented its third Noonday Concert of the 1990-1991 academic year at Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Franz Strauss' "Nocturne, Op. 7", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Allegro con spirito" and "Deh Vieni Alla Finestra", Arcangelo Corelli's "Sonata in D major, Op. 5, No. 1", Roger Quilter's "Come Away, Death", Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Allegro assai vivace" from the "Sonata in D major, Op. 58", Charles Koechlin's "Si tu le veux", Emmanuel Chabrier's "Villanelle des petits canards", and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Allegro" from the "Quartet, Op.

The Music Department presented a concert by guitarist Allen Krantz at 8:15 in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Krantz performed Sylvius Leopold Weiss' "Allemande", "Passapied", and "Gavotte"; Mauro Giuliani's "Sonatina op. 71"; Domenico Scarlatti's "Four Sonatas"; Maurice Ravel's "Pavane"; Joaquin Turina's "Fandaguillo"; and Isaac Albeniz's "Mallorca" and "Rumores de Caleta".

The Music Department presented a concert by the Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir titled "Baroque to Neo-Classicism: A Concert illustrating the remarkable changes in musical style between 1725 and 1790" for the Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies at 8:00pm in the Weiss Center for the Arts.  The ensembles performed Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto in F minor for violin and orchestra (op. 8 no.

The Music Department presented a performance by the Eaken Piano Trio, featuring bassoon and harpsichord player Truman Bullard, mezzo-soprano Brenda Smith Barrett, and clarinet player Ella Forsyth, at 3:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The trio performed Wolfgang Amadeus' Mozar's "Sonate for Bassoon and Violoncello, K. 292", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Erbarme dich, mein Gott", Paul Hindemith's "Quartet for Clarinet, Violin, Cello, and Piano", and Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's "Trio in C minor, op. 66".

The Music Department presented a Parents Day concert featuring the College-Community Orchestra, the Collegium Musicum, the Dickinson College Choir, and the Symphonic Band at 11:00am in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  The ensembles performed Gustav Holst's "March from the Second Suite in F"; Jerry Brubaker's arrangement of "Mancini Magic"; Jaime Texidor's "Amparito Roca"; Johannes Brahms' Academic Festival Overture; "Heilig ist der Herr" from Franz Schubert's German Mass 1826; Paul Bouman's arrangement of "Amazing Grace"; H.

The Harrisburg Civic Opera presented a concert by the Britten-Pears Ensemble at Rubendall Recital Hall at 8:15pm.  The ensemble performed Benjamin Britten's "Rhapsody for a string quartet", Frank Martin's "Quatre Sonnets à Cassandre". Claude Debussy's "Sonata for Flute, Viola, and Harp", Paul Hindemith's "Die junge Magd op. 23 no. 2", Maurice Ravel's "Introduction and Allegro", and Richard Rodney Bennett's "Gershwin Arrangement".

The Music Department presented its second Noonday Concert of the 1990-1991 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Luigi Boccherini's "Allegro from the Viola Concerto in G major, no. 3" and "Concerto in B-flat minor"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Gavotte from Partita no. 3 in E major"; Jerome Kessler's "Kol Nidre"; and Ralph Vaughan Williams' arrangement of the English folk songs "The Dark-Eyed Sailor", "The Springtime of the Year", "Just as the Tide was Flowing", and "The Lover's Ghost".

The Music Department presented a concert of chamber music for the clarinet at Rubendall Recital Hall at 8:15pm.  Performers played Aaron Copland's "Sextet", Max Reger's "Quintet in A major, op. 146", and Sergei Prokofiev's "Overture on Hebrew Themes, op. 34".

The Music Department presented a performance by the Renaissance City Winds at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The woodwind quintet performed Georg Friedrich Handel's "Suite from The Water Music", Johann Sebastian Bach's "'Little' Fugue in G minor, BWV 578", Paul Hindemith's "Kleine Kammermusik, Op. 24 No. 2", Robert Washburn's "Three Pieces for Three Woodwinds", Johannes Brahms' "Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Handel", and Scott Joplin's "The Easy Winners".

The Central Pennsylvania Consortium presented a concert by Tina Chancey, pardessus de viole, accompanied by harpsichordist Peter Marshall, at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Chancey performed Jean Barrier's "Sonata IV", J.S. Bach's "Concerto in C major, BWV 977", Arcangelo Corelli's "Sonata V", François Couperin's "Concert Royal" and "Pièces de la 6ème Ordre", and Jean-Marie Leclair's "Sonata II".

The Music Department presented its first Noonday Concert of the 1990-1991 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Faculty performed Johann Sebastian Bach's "Suite in F Major, BWV 809" and "First Cello Suite", Herbert Howells' "King David", Edward Elgar's "Speak, Music", Mauro Giuliani's "La Rose", Sir Lennox Berkeley's "Theme and Variations", Leo Brouwer's "Danza Caracteristica", Gabriel Fauré's "Sicilienne, Op. 78", and Eugène Ysaiÿe's "Malinconai".

The Music Department presented the Chamber Orchestra's "All-Beethoven Program" at 8:00pm in the Weiss Center for the Arts.  The orchestra performed "Overture", "Melodrama", and "Siegessymphonic", all from Egmont (op. 84); "Marcia funebie, Adagio assai" from Symphony No. 3 in Eb Major ("eroica"); and "Concerto for violin and orchestra (op. 61)", all by Ludwig van Beethoven.

The Music Department presented a junior recital by mezzo-soprano Louise Nelson, featuring mezzo-soprano Joanne aley and soprano Linda Shippey and accompanied by pianist J. Mark Stambaugh and guitarist David Hurley, at 4:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.

The Music Department presented a junior recital for sopranos Bethany Arnold and Shaune Milligan at 3:00pm at Rubendall Recital Hall.

The Music Department presented the Dickinson Twentieth-Century Music Ensemble's "A Concert of Twentieth-Century Music, Featuring Vocal Music by Dickinson Faculty Member J. Mark Stambaugh" at 8:00pm at the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed David Ashley White's "Six Miniatures for Three Players", Paul Hindemith's "Kanonische Sonatine", Arnold Schoenberg's "Sechs Kleine Klavierstucke, Op. 19", Alban Berg's "View Stucke fur Klarinette und Klavier, Nos.

The Music Department presented its eighth Noonday Concert of the 1989-1990 academic year at Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Claude Debussy's "Trois Chansons sur textes de Charles d'Orleans", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Soave", Frédéric Chopin's "Waltz in C# minor, op. 64, No. 2", Isaac Albeniz's "Berceuse", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fuga", Matteo Carcassi's "Etude No. 8", Johannes Brahms' "Sonata No. 3, D minor for Piano and Violin", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Sonata in A Major, K. 331, First Movement", and David Popper's "Duet for Two Celli".

The Music Department presented a concert by the Chamber Orchestra at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The orchestra performed Ludwig van Beethoven's "Concerto No. 3 in C minor", Ralph Vaughan Williams' The Lark Ascending, John W. Jones' "Rondo for winds and percussion", and Robert Convery's Lyric Symphony. 

The Music Department presented a flute repertory class at 5:15pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Minuet" and "Ariette", Georg Friedrich Handel's "Aria" and "Gavotte", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Scherzando", Robert Schumann's "May, Sweet May", Gabriel Fauré's "Sicilienne", Christoph Willibald Gluck's "Minuet and Dance of the Blessed Spirits", Claude Bollings "Baroque and Blue" and "Irlandaise", and Franz Doppler's "Andante and rondo for Two Flutes and Piano".

The Music Department presented a spring concert by the Symphonic Band at 3:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  The ensemble performed John Philip Sousa's "The Fairest of the Fair", "The Rifle Regiment March", and "Stars and Stripes Forever"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "The Impresario"; Alfred Reed's "A Jubilant Overture"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in D Minor"; Gustav Holet's "Second Suite for Military Band in F Major"; and Al Hages' "Best Loved Southern Melodies".

The Dickinson College Choir joined the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra in performing Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor on April 24 and 25.

The Music Department presented a concert by the Chamber Orchestra at 8:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The orchestra performed Johann Sebastian Bach's "Concerto for two violins and orchestra (BWV 1043)", Karl Maria von Weber's "Concerto no. 1 in F-minor for clarinet and orchestra (op. 73)", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Romance in G-major", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Symphony no. 31 in D-major".

The Music Department presented a junior concert by flutists Janet Barber and Karen Beaver, accompanied by pianist Joan Boytim, at 3:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The flutists performed Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Vocalise", Friedrich Kuhlau's "Divertissement in G, Op. 68", Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's "Concerto in G", John Davison's Dances, Claude Debussy's Syrinx, Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata in E flat Major and G Minor", and Franz Doppler's "Andante and Rondo, Op. 25".

The Music Department presented a concert by Eine Kleine Streichquartett at 7:30pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The quartet performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "String Quartet, K. 172" and "Eine kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525", Anton Dvorak's "String Quartet, F Major, Op. 96", and Franz Joseph Haydn's "Quartet No. 42, Op. 76, No. 3".

The Music Department presented the Collegium Musicum's "Multicultural America: Music from Many Traditions" at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed Karl Kroeger's arrangement of Jeremiah Dencke's "Gesegnet bist du mein Volk"; A.

The Music Department presented a faculty recital by harpsichordist Amy Rosser at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Rosser performed Louis Couperin's "Pièces de claveçin en fa majeur", François Couperin's "Pièces de claveçin, Treiziéme ordre", Robert Muczynski's "Profiles, Op. 42", and Johann Sebastian Bach's "English Suite IV in F Major".
