Winter Symphonic Band Concert

The Music Department presented the Symphonic Band's fourth annual winter concert at 3:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The band performed the National Anthem, Alfred Reed's arrangement of "Greensleeves", Karl L. King's "Invictus March", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fantasia in G Major", Sammy Nestico's "Christmas Joy", John William Jones' "Variations on an Ancient Irish Song", Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov's "Procession of the Nobles", John Zdechlik's "Dialogues on 'In Dulci Jublio'", James Barnes' "Autumn Soliloquy, Op. 65", and Leroy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride".

Noonday Concert

The Music Department presented the fourth Noonday Concert of the 1988-1989 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Serenade in B-flat Major, K. 361", Truman Bullard's "Three Spiritual Lauds for soprano, flute, and organ", Mozart's "Als Luise die Briefe ihres ungetreuen Liebhabers verbrannte Warnung", Alessandro Scarlatti's "Già il Sole del Gange", Henry Purcell's "I'll Sail Upon the Dog Star", and Franz Schubert's "Der Hirt auf dem Felsen, Op. 129".

Choir and College-Community Orchestra Joint Concert

The Music Department presented a joint concert between the Choir and the College-Community Orchestra at 3:00pm in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  They performed Giuseppe Verdi's "Overture to Nabucco", selections from Bedrich Smetana's Bohemia's Meadows and Forests, Eduard Lalo's "Symphonic espagnol, op. 21", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Grand Mass in C Major (K. 317)".

Settlement Music School Contemporary Music Players Perform

The Music Department presented a concert by the Settlement Music School Contemporary Music Players at 8:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The ensemble performed Jeffrey Mumford's "notturno (a pond within)", Elliott Carter's "Cello Sonata", Ned Rorem's "Book of Hours", and Larry Nelson's "Crescents".

The Music Department presented a concert by the Dickinson College Symphonic Band at the First United Church of Christ in Carlisle at 4:00pm.  The band performed the National Anthem, Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov's "Procession of the Nobles", Alfred Reer's arrangement of "Greensleeves", Karl L. King's "Invictus March", James Barnes' "Autumn Soliloquy, op. 65", Robert Jager's "Esprit de Corps", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fantasia in G Major", and John William Jones' "Variations on an Ancient Irish Song".

Noonday Concert

The Music Department presented the third Noonday Concert of the 1988-1989 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty performed the Gregorian chant "Gaudeamus", Gymel's "Noblis, humilis", William Byrd's "Ave Verum Corpus", Henry Purcell's "Chaconne" from The Fairy Queen, Friedrich Kuhlau's "Divertissement for solo flute in G Major, Op. 68, No. 1", Philip Glass' "Prelude and Caprice from Serenade for Solo Flute", Jacques Hotteterre le Romain's "Trio Sonata in G Major", and Alan Hovhaness' "Trio I, Op. 3".

John Eaken Performs

The Music Department presented a faculty recital by violinist John Eaken, accompanied by pianist Gloria Whitney, at 8:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  The songs performed were Johannes Brahms' "Sonata in D minor, Op. 108", Maurice Ravel's "Tzigane", Chen Gang's "Love Song", Fritz Kreisler's "The Old Refrain" and "Schon Rosmarin", and Pablo de Sarasate's "Zigunerweisen".

Flute Repertory Class

The Music Department presented a flute repertory class at 7:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Performers played Johann Sebastian Bach's "Menuet", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Allegro", Frédéric Chopin's "Variations on a Theme by Rossini", Gabriel Faure's "Pièce", Johann Joachim Quantz's "Arioso from Concerto in G Major", Friedrich Kuhlau's "Divertissement for solo flute in G Major, Op. 68, No. 1", Philip Glass' "Prelude and Caprice from Serenade for Solo Flute", and Cécile Chaminade's "Concertino for flute and orchestra, Op. 107".

Parents Weekend Concert

The Music Department presented a Parents Weekend Concert featuring the Dickinson College Choir, the Symphonic Band, and the College-Community Orchestra at 11:00am in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium.  The ensembles played Nicholas Rimsky-Korsakov's "Procession of the noble", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fantasia in G Major", Robert Jager's "Esprit de Corps", Franz Schubert's "Overture to Rosamunde", four Slovak folk songs arranged by Bela Bartók, Johannes Brahms' "How Lovely are Thy Dwelling", and Ralph Vaughan-Williams' "The Hundredth Psalm".

The Music Department presented the second Noonday Concert of the 1988-1989 academic year in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Faculty and students performed Camille Saint-Saëns' "Allegro Appassionata", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Adagio ma non tanto" and "Allegro" from Sonata No. 3 in E Major, Cécile Chaminade's "Concertino", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Divertimento in B-flat Major, K. 493b", and Gustav Mahler's "Ich atmet 'einen linden Duft" and "Um Mitternacht".

Chamber Orchestra and Chamber Choir Perform

The Music Department presented a concert featuring the Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Choir at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall.  The groups performed Ottorino Respighi's "Ancient Airs and Dances", Hendrik Andriessen's "Intermezzo for flute and harp", Pietro Mascagni's "Intermezzo", three choruses from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Idomeneo, and Mozart's "Concerto for Flute and Harp (K. 299)".

The Department of Music presented the first Noonday Concert of the 1988-1989 academic year in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  Students and faculty played John Bull's "Gigge, A Doctor Bull's my selfe", Richard Farnaby's "Nobodyes Gigge", Robert Schumann's "Romances No. 1 and No. 2, Op. 94", Mauro Giuliani's "La Rose, Op. 46", Joaquin Rodrigo's "En Los Trigales", Samuel Barber's "Canzone", Maurice Ravel's "Pièce en forme de habanera", Franz Joseph Gossec's "Tambourin", Camille Saint-Saëns' "Allegro Appasionato", and Antony Arensky's "Trio in D minor, Op. 32".

Allegheny Baroque Ensemble Performs

The Allegheny Baroque Ensemble performed at 3:00pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  They performed Georg Frideric Handel's "Overture to Solomon"; Francesco Geminiani's Concerto Grosso in D minor, Op. 3, No. 4; Franz Joseph Haydn's Sinfonia No. 16 in B-flat Major; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusick, KV 525; and Carlo Ricciotti's Concertino No. 2 in G Major.

Senior Vocal Recital

Soprano Rebecca McDonald performed a senior recital, presented by the Music Department and accompanied by pianist Laura Reed.  She performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Guinse al fin il momento" and "Deh vieni non tardar"; Ernest Chausson's "Le Charme", "Nos Souvenirs", and "Les Papillons"; Ned Rorem's "Spring and Fall"; Norman Dello Joio's "How Do I Love Thee?"; Richard Strauss' "Morgen" and "Ich Schwebe"; and John Duke's "Loveliest of Trees", "Be Still As You Are Beautiful", and "Just-Spring".

Mary Hannigan Performs

The Department of Music presented a faculty recital by flautist Mary Hannigan, accompanied by pianist Barry Hannigran, at 8:15pm in the Rubendall Recital Hall.  She performed Carl Reinecke's "Ballade, Op. 288", Larry Nelson's "Music for Flute and Electronic Sounds", Eugene Bozza's "Agrestide", Johann Nepomuk Hummel's "Grand Rondeau", and Francois Borne's "Carmen Fantaisie".

Choirs, College-Community Orchestra, and Brass Ensemble Perform at Old St. Paul's Church

The Music Department presented a Lenten concert performed by the Dickinson Chamber Choir, the Dickinson College Choir, the College-Community Orchestra, and the Brass Ensemble at 7:30pm at Old St. Paul's Church in Baltimore, Maryland.  They performed Johann Sebastian Bach's Concerto in F Minor, Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto in G Minor, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Ave, verum corpus", and "Kyrie" and "Gloria" from Johann Sebastian Bach's Mass in B-minor.

College Choir and College-Community Orchestra Perform
