Faculty Violin Recital

The Department of Music presented violinist John Eaken in a faculty recital at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Accompanied by pianist Gloria Whitney, he played Richard Strauss' "Sonata in E-flat Major", Bela Bartok's "Sonatine", Olivier Messiaen's "Theme and Variations", Fritz Kreisler's "Caprice Viennois", and Pablo de Sarasate's "Habanera". 

Carl Adams and Nicholas Mastripolito Perform

The Department of Music presented flutist Carl Adams and pianist Nicholas Mastripolito in a recital at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. They played Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata in E-flat Major", Henri Dutilleux's "Sonatine", Franz Doppler's "Fantasie Pastorale Hongroise", Benjamin Godard's "Waltz", Jacques Berlinski's "Sonata", and Bela Bartok's "Suite Paysanne Hongroise". 

1986 Parents' Day Concert

The Department of Music presented the College Choir, Symphonic Band, and College-Community Orchestra in the 1986 Parents' Day Concert at 11:ooam in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. The Symphonic Band opened the program and played Franz Schubert's "March Militaire I", Sammy Nestico's "Persuasion", and Scott Joplin's "The Strenuous Life". Next, the orchestra played Modest Mussorgsky's Pictures from an Exhibition.

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the second Noonday Concert of the 1986-1987 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall. Students and faculty performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Allegro" from Twelve duets for Waldhorn, "Divertimento in B-flat Major" and "Molto Allegro" from Sonata in C Minor; Giuseppe Concone's "Etude No. 46"; Alan Hovhaness' "Pastoral for Two Flutes"; David Van Vactor's "Ashes of Roses" and "If You Should Ever Tire of Loving Me", and Franz Danzi's "Minuet and Trio" from Quintet in B-flat Major

Noonday Concert

 The Department of Music presented the first Noonday Concert of the 1986-1987 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall. Members of the Applied Music Faculty played John W. Jones' "Juxtaposition", Franz Liszt's "Sonetto 104 del Petrarca", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Partita in D Minor for solo violin" and "Partita in E Major for solo violin", Manuel de Falla's "Omagio per chitarra scritto per Le Tombeau de Debussy", Julian Orbon's "Preludio y Danza", Jacques DuPhly's Pieces de clavecin, and Frederic Chopin's "Ballade in F Major". 

Chamber Music Recital

The Department of Music presented violinist John Eaken, cellist June Shomaker, pianist Kee Mann Chang, and violist Paul Chalfont in a chamber music recital at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. They played Ludwig van Beethoven's "Duo in C Major for Violin and Cello", Franz Joseph Haydn's "Trio in G Major for Violin, Viola, and Cello", Erno Von Dohnanyi's "Marcia from the Serenade for String Trio", Robert Schumann's "Andante from the Piano Quartet in E-flat Major", and Gabriel Faure's "Quartet in C Minor for Piano, Violin, Viola and Cello". 

1986 Chamber Orchestra Spring Concert

The Department of Music presented the Chamber Orchestra with students of the Studio of Brenda Smith in a concert of twentieth-century music at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. They performed John William Jones' Juxtaposition; Ernest Bloch's "Suite Modale for flute and string orchestra"; Bela Bartok's "Joc cu bata", "Braul", "Pe loc", "Buciumeana", "Poarga Romaneasca", and "Maruntel"; and Brecht/Weill's Mahagonny

Senior Flute Recital

The Department of Music presented flutist Nancy Zezza in her senior recital, "Music by Composers in Political Difficulty", at 3:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Accompanied by James Sempeles on piano, she played Paul Hindemith's "Sonata for Flute and Piano (1936)", Friedrich Kuhlau's "Divertissement in D Major for flute alone", and Francois Devienne's "Sonata in D Major for flute and keyboard".

Students and faculty performed Richard Strauss' "Schon sind, doch kalt" and "Allerseelen", Domenico Scarlatti's "Sonata in B-flat Major" and "Sonata in F Minor", Fernando Sor's "Andante", Mauro Giuliani's "Andante", Carlos Salzedo's "Tango" and "Rhumba", Aaron Copland's "As it Fell Upon a Day", and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach's "Allegretto from Trio Sonata in B-flat Major". 

1986 Symphonic Band Spring Concert

They played Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Flourish for Wind Band", Donald Voegeli's "All Things Considered", Gordon Jacob's "Celebration Overture", Franz Joseph Haydn's "Minuet and Trio from Symphony No. 94", John O'Reilly's "Mountain Fantasy", Gioacchino Rossini's "Introduction, Theme and Variations", Carlos Salzedo's "Chanson dans la nuit", Aaron Copland's "Waltz and Celebration", Karl L. King's "Hosts of Freedom", and John William Jones' "Variations on an Ancient Irish Song". 

Senior Recital

Students and faculty performed Emmauel Chabrier's "Dance Villageoise", Truman Bullard's "Laud to the Resurrection", Francisco Tarrega's "Andantino", Fernando Sor's "Minuetto", Francesco da Milano's "Pavan", Cesare Negri's "Bianco fiore", Michael Praetorius' "L'Espagnolette" and "La Robin", and Warren Martin's "Cinderella Trio". 

Kee Mann Chang Performs

The Department of Music presented pianist Kee Mann Chang in a recital at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Chang played Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Fantasie in C Minor", Johannes Brahms' "Variations on a Theme by the Composer", Sergei Rachmaninoff's "Prelude in D Major" and "Prelude in B-flat Major", and Frederic Chopin's "Ballade in F Minor".

1986 Public Affairs Symposium "Church Music in America"

The 1986 Public Affairs Symposium lecture and demonstration, "Church Music in America", was given by Brenda Smith, Truman Bullard, and June Shomaker at 12:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Pieces which were performed during the demonstration include Heinrich Schutz's "Bringt her dem Herrn"; selections from Johann Sebastian Bach's Bist Du bei Mir, Hochster was ich habe, and Mass in B Minor, and "Sing to the Lord a New Song"; and Felix Mendelssohn's "Ich harrete des Herrn".
