1980 Parents' Day Concert

The Department of Music presented the 1980 Parents' Day Concert at 11:00am in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. The College Choir, Collegium Musicum, and College-Community Orchestra performed Vaclav Nelhybel's "Three Intradas, Georges Bizet's "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2", Heinz Werner Zimmerman's "Psalmkonzert", and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Hallelujah Chorus". 

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the first Noonday Concert of the 1981-1982 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty played Samuel Scheidt's "Canzon Cornetto", Jacques Ibert's "Cinq Pieces en trio", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Quintet for Piano, Oboe, Clarinet, Horn and Bassoon".

Mozart on Fifth Performs

Cultural Affairs presented Mozart on Fifth in a concert at 8:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They played Mozart's "Largo" and "Divertimentti"; Joplin's "The Entertainer", "Solace", "Ragtime Dance", "Moonlight Serenade", "Easy Winners", "Pineapple Rag", and "Maple Leaf Rug"; McCartney's "When I'm 64" and "Eleanor Rigby"; the anonymously-written pieces "Number 12" and "Green Point Polka"; and Weil's "September Song".

Carlisle Woodwind Quintet Performs

The Carlisle Woodwind Quintet gave a concert at 7:30pm in Mathers Theatre as a part of the 1981 Chautauqua Series. They played Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Divertimento No. 9", Ulysses Kay's "Prelude for Unaccompanied Flute", M. Boucard's "Suite Chametre for Flute and Horn", Jacques Ibert's "Cinq Pieces en trio", Michael Haydn's "Divertimento in D Major", and Anton Reicha's "Woodwind Quintet in E-flat Major".

The Department of Music presented the eleventh Noonday Concert of the 1980-1981 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Divertimento for Winds" and "Sonata in E Major", Heinrich Schutz's "O quam tu pulchra es", Luca Marenzio's "Zefiro torna", Carlo Gesualdo's "Tenebrae factae sunt", Gerald Finzi's "It was a lover and his lass" and "I said to love", and Harrison Boyle's "Equinoxes".

Dickinson College Wind Festival

An adjudicated Wind Festival was held on April 22. Redland High School Symphonic Concert Band, Boiling Springs High School Band, Cumberland Valley High School Symphonic Band, Bermudian Springs High School band, Cedar Cliff Symphonic Wind Ensemble, James Buchanan High School Concert Band, and Cumberland Valley High School Concert Band performed in this event.

The Department of Music presented the tenth Afternoon Concert of the 1980-1981 academic year at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church at 3:15pm. Students and faculty performed Max Reger's "Toccata"; Jeremiah Clarke's "Trumpet Voluntary"; Henry Purcell's "Trumpet Tune"; Louis Couperin's "Chaconne"; Johann Sebastian Bach's "Fugue in G Minor", "Fiddle Fugue", "Sheep May Safely Graze", and "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Adagio and Rondo"; and Jean Langlais' "Epilogue for Pedal solo". 

1981 Choir-Orchestra Spring Concert

The Department of Music presented the College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra in their annual spring concert in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Henry Purcell's "O Sing unto the Lord", Aaron Copland's "Billy the Kid", Harrison Boyle's "Equinoxes", Camille Saint-Saens' "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso", and Aleksandr Borodin's "Polovtsian Dances".

They played Francois Couperin's "Air" from L'Apotheose de Lully, Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata for flute and keyboard in A Major", Robert Schultz's "Tsur Mehora" , Gabriel Faure's "Fantaisie pour flute and piano", Luciano Berio's "Sequenza per faluto solo", and Carl Reinecke's "Sonata for Flute and Piano in E Minor". 

Millette Alexander and Frank Daykin Perform

The piano duo of Millette Alexander and Frank Daykin gave a concert at 8:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They played Bach/Hess' "Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring"; Ravel's "Pavane of the Sleeping Beauty", "Hop O' My Thumb", "Little Ugly, Empress of the Pagodas", "Beauty and the Beast", and "The Enchanted Garden"; Brahms' "Variations on a theme by Haydon" and "16 Waltzes"; Poulenc's "Sonata"; and Debussy's "Fetes".

Friends of the Library Present "An Evening with Cole Porter"

Students and faculty performed a banjo solo entitled "Foggy Mountain Breakdown", Isaac Albeniz's "Granada" and "Zambra Granadina", a selection of American folk songs, three dances from Greek and Khalmuk cultures, and four spirituals: "Give me the mind, Lord", "Steal Away", "Wade in the water" and "The blood will never lose its power". 

United States Army Field Band and Soldiers' Chorus Performs
