Collegium Presents "The Play of Daniel"

Collegium Musicum presented the medieval opera The Play of Daniel in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. The story of Daniel is told in the Old Testament, and the play depicts his encounter with God when his angels were sent to save him from the lions' den. He then went on to predict the coming of the Messiah. The opera was sung entirely in Latin.

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the third Noonday Concert of the 1981-1982 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Joseph Bodin de Boismortier's "Concerto in G Major for Five Flutes", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Prelude and Fugue in C-sharp Major", Giovanni Paolo Colonna's "O Splendid Dies", Frederic Chopin's "Waltz in C-sharp Minor", Franz Danzi's "Woodwind Quintet in G Minor", and Johann Pachelbel's "Canon for Three Violins and Basso Continuo". 

1981 Chamber Orchestra Fall Concert

The Department of Music presented the Chamber Orchestra in a concert at 8:00pm in Mathers Theatre. They played Johann Sebastian Bach's "Bradenburg Concerto No. 1" and "Concerto in D Minor"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Concerto in G Major", "Komm liebe Zither, Komm", and "Die Zufriedenheit"; Alan Hovhaness' "Haroutium"; Malcolm Arnold's "Serenade for Guitar and Strings"; and Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Bachianas Brasilerias No. 5". 

Community Recital

A Community Recital was presented in Memorial Hall. The program for this event included Paganini-Liszt's "La Campanella"; Gustav Mahler's "Ich Atmet Einen Linden Duft", "Liebst Du Um Schonheit", "Blicke Mir Nicht In Die Lieder", and "Um Mitternacht"; Walter Rogers' "Columbian Festival"; Moritz Moszkowski's "Gitarre"; Felix Mendelssohn's "Draw Near all ye People"; Theo Servais' "Rencontre"; Irving Fine's "Polaroli" and "Lenny the Leopard"; Irving Mopper's "Men"; and Arcangelo Corelli's "Trio Sonata in D Major".

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the second Noonday Concert of the 1981-1982 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Frederic Chopin's "Fantasie Impromptu", John Davison's "Dances for Solo Flute", Gabriel Faure's "Ici-bas" and "Les Berceaux", Robert Schumann's "Kinderscenen", and Antonio Rosetti's "Partita in F Major". 

1981 Choir-Jazz Ensemble Fall Concert

The Department of Music presented the Chamber Choir and Jazz Ensemble in a concert in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Gwyn Arch's "An Island Sheiling Song" and "An Eriskay Love Lilt"; Maurice Jacobson's "Blow the Wind Southerly"; James Sutcliffe's "Love will Find out the Way"; Billy Byers' "Yuriko"; Jay Beckenstein's "Morning Dance"; Thad Jones' "Big Dipper"; S. Garfinkel's "Antya Laba"; and William Dawnson's "Ev'ry Time I Feel the Spirit", "Feed-a My Sheep", and "I Want to be Ready". 

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented pianist and composer John Davison in a Noonday Concert in Memorial Hall. He played Alfred Swan's "Jane's Melodies"; Alfred Palmer's "Prelude No.1"; and four pieces composed by Davison himself: "Introduction and Dance", "Suite I", "Sonata in One Movement", and "Blessed be the Lord".

1981 Parents' Day Concert

The Department of Music presented the College-Community Orchestra, Collegium Musicum, Chamber Choir, and College Choir in the 1981 Parents' Day Concert at 11:00am in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed George F. Handel's "Music for the Royal Fireworks", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Regina Coeli", highlights from Pietro Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana", and a selection of works from the Middle Ages and Renaissance".
