1919 Commencement

Commencement exercises for the 1918-19 academic year were held at Bosler Memorial Hall. Speakers included Bishop Luther B. Wilson, Bishop Rogers Israel, and the Hon. Josephus Daniels, Secretary of the Navy. Fifty-two students were graduated, a number much smaller than usual because of World War I. The Dickinson Players performed Shakespeare's "As You Like It"  as part of the commencement festivities. Because of the effort of overcoming the war, this commencement was nicknamed the "Victory Commencement."

1980 Collegium Musicum Fall Concert

The Department  of Music presented the Collegium Musicum in their 1980 fall concert in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Orlando di Lasso's "Prophetiae Sibyllarum", John Shepherd's "Verbum cago factum est", two anonymously-written songs entitled "Quis dabit capiti meo aquam" and "Basela un trotto", Heinrich Isaac's "Quis dabit capiti meo aquam", Adrian Willaert's "O bene mio", Francesco Corteccia's "Guardane almo pastore", Filippo Azzaiolo's "Chi passa per la strada", W.H. Auden's "Hymn to St. Cecilia", and Benjamin Britten's "Hymn to St. Cecilia".

The Department of Music presented the fourth Noonday Concert of the 1980-1981 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Franz Schubert's "Serenade", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Sonata No. 1 in D Major for Two Flutes", Antonio Vivaldi's "Concerto for Two Mandolins", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata No. 10 in G Major", Johannes Brahms' "Sonata No. 1 for Clarinet and Piano", Muzio Clementi's "Sonata in C Major for four hands", and Johann Christian Bach's "Sinfonia No. 3 in E-flat Major". 

Allen Krantz Performs

Professor Allen Krantz gave a classical guitar concert at 8:00pm in Memorial Hall. He played a prelude by Sylvius Leopold White, two sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, Francisco Tarrega's "Caprichio Arabe", Hans Werner Henze's "Drei Tentos", Niccolo Paganini's "Romanze", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Suite in D Major", and Agustin Barrios' "Chore de Saudade" and "Waltz". 

Music Department Presents "A Concert of English Music"

The Department of Music presented the Wind Ensemble, College Choir, and College-Community Orchestra in "A Concert of English Music" at 3:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Gustav Holst's "Second Suite for Military Band"; George Frederick Handel's "Total Eclipse", "Deeper and Deeper Still", "Waft her, angels, through the skies", "My arms", and "Sound an alarm"; and Ralph Vaughn-Williams' A Pilgrim's Journey.

The Department of Music presented the third Noonday Concert of the 1980-1981 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Giuseppe Giordani's "Caro Mio Ben", George Frideric Handel's "Where'er You Walk", Antonio Vivaldi's "Laudamus Te", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata No. 9 in E Major", Igor Stravinsky's "Pastorale", Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov's "Aria", and George Gershwin's "Bess You Is My Woman".

The Department of Music presented the second Noonday Concert of the 1980-1981 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Jospeh Bodin de Boismortier's "Concerto in D Major", Alec Rowley's "Tune thy music to the heart", Georg Philipp Telemann's "Trio Sonata in E minor for two flutes and continuo", Johannes Brahms' "Ballad", and scenes from William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream".

The Department of Music presented the first Noonday Concert of the 1980-1981 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Giovanni Gabrieli's "Canzon Prima", George Philipp Telemann's "Concerto a tre", Augustin Barrios' "The Last Song", Paul Hindemith's "Pieces for flute alone", Georg Friedrich Handel's "Flammende Rose", Jacques-Christophe Naudot's "Trio in C Major", Reuben Varga's "Prelude and Fourth Caprice", and Michael Haydn's "Divertimento in B-flat". 

1980 Collegium Musicum Spring Concert

The Department of Music presented the Collegium Musicum in a concert in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Josquin des Pres' "Qui velatus facie fuisti", Juan Vasquez's "Si me llaman", Alonso Mudarra's "Si me llaman", and Juan del Encina's "Ay triste que vengo". Additionally, they performed several anonymously-written pieces: "Homo, quo Vigeas Et gaudebit", "Vite perdite", "Crucifigat omnes", "Fas et nefas", "Soleta, so jo aci", "Al nino Dios la Virgen", "Soberana Maria", "Jancu janto", and "A los banos del amor".

The Department of Music presented the seventh Noonday Concert of the 1979-1980 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Chopin's "Ballade in F Major", Gabriel Faure's "Chanson D'Amour", Paulenc's "Sonate for Clarinet", Roper Quierter's "Under the Greenwood Tree", Norman Dello Joio's "There is a Lady", and Brahms' "Intermezzo in A Major".

The Department of Music presented the sixth Noonday Concert of the 1979-1980 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed J.J. Quantz's "Concerto in G Major for flute and string orchestra ", Domenico Cimarosa's "Concerto in G Major for two flutes and orchestra", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Mia Speranza adorata" and "Divertimento in D Major".

Michael Jaff and Kevin Smith Perform

The Department of Music presented tenor Michael Jaff and pianist Kevin Smith in a senior music recital at 8:00pm in Memorial Hall. They performed Georg Philipp Telemann's "Kanarienvogel Kantate"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Dans un bois", "Ridents la calma", and "Warnung"; Gabriel Faure's "Mandoline" and "Aurore"; Claude Debussy's "Le son du Cor S'afflige"; Gustav Mahler's "Rheinlegendchen" and "Ich atmet einen Lindenduft"; David Diamond's "To Lucasta" and "David Mourns for Absalom"; and Charles Ives' "The Cage".

Students and faculty performed Eduard Morike's "Auf ein altes Bild", "Das verlassene Magdlein", and "Der Gartner"; Chopin's "Waltz in A-flat Major"; Henry Purcell's "Ah How Sweet" and "Kind Fortune Smiles"; Felix Mendelssohn's "Rondo Capriccios"; Leo Delibes' "Saus le dome epais"; and Goffredo Petrassi's "Dialogo Angelico Per Due Flaute".

Students and faculty performed  Johann Sebastian Bach's "Triosonate G-Dur fur zwei Floten und Basso Continuo" and "VI Cello Suite", Leo Delibes' "Sous le dome epais" from Lakme, Claude Debussy's "Syrinx", and H. Villa-Lobos' "Choro".

Samuel Martin, trombone, and Anita Ranucci Brandon, oboe, performed Camille Saint-Saens' "Sonate" and "Cavatine", Gabriel Faure's "After a Dream", Antonio Vivalidi's "Sonata No. 4", Richard Faith's "Introspective Monologue", Jaques Casterede's "Sonatine", and Sy Brandon's "Serenade for Oboe and Tuba".
