Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award

Michael Bell of Indiana and Purdue Universities offers American Folklore summer course. Trustees elect two new members: Samuel Witwer, Jr., and Thomas Zug. Prof. Howard Long wins Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching. Seniors present award to Prof. William Jeffries. The Toronto Consort to perform at College. A Summary of Commager's Commencement speech is given. A wide range of groups schedule events at the College for over the summer including the Washington Redskins. Professor Paul F. Angiolillo, already a holder of the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching, receives the Ganoe Award during Commencement.

Former President Rubendall is honored by Dickinson and Carlisle in a Testimonial Dinner. A Testimonial to Rubendall is published as well. William R. Bowden will receive the Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award. Professors Flower, Kellogg, Sloane, and Warlow will retire this year.

New York Times Columnist James B. Reston spoke at commencement. Charges of slander were leveled against Clarke W. Garrett, who reportedly made comments about Larry J. Warner in one of his classes. Gen. Harold K. Johnson is set to address ROTC graduates. David F. Brubaker received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching at a Trustees' Meeting on May 30. Phi Beta Kappa voted on new members. 18 members of the Dickinsonian community are planning to study art and religion in India over the summer.

A review of Commencement is given. Dr. Daniel R. Bechtel, chairman of the department of religion, receives the 1970 Lindback Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Horace E. Rogers , senior member of the College faculty and the Alfred Victor duPont Professor of Analytical Chemistry, is elected president of the Dickinson chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. The Red Cross campaigns to assist American POWs.

In this issue, an assembly of students met and overwhelmingly voted in favor of petitioning the school for changes in the current Social Rules. An editorial reaffirms this sentiment. Dickinson's College Bowl team beat St. Francis. The school is planning two new dormitories. Students voice their approval for the new College Food Service. Three separate articles mock typical Dickinson students. Renovations in Bosler are hoped to provide better library facilities. The college welcomed 255 men and 138 women during its orientation, as well as 28 faculty.

In this issue of the Dickinsonian the college begins its 190th year. The construction of the new girl's dormitory is two months ahead of schedule. Dr. Angiolillo joins the faculty as chairman of the language department. The opera "Cosi Fan Tutte" to be performed by the Turnau Opera Players. Trustees set dates for construction of new fraternity houses and a student union building. A modern library will be designed for September 1965. New Student Union Building and ten fraternities to be completed September 1964. Dickinson has largest enrollment in history of college with attendance of 1100.
