Dickinsonian, October 18, 1957

The recent Parents' Weekend boasted an attendance of over 1200. Dickinson will hold a Campus Chest Week to raise money for various charities. The Belle Lettres society will hold its first literary conversation of the year, entitled "Shakespeare on the Modern Stage" and led by Professor Edward Brubaker of F&M (brother of Drama professor David Brubaker), Dr. William Bowden, Dean Frederic Ness and student Anne Saunders. The second annual Student Leadership Training Conference will be held at Camp Michaux to discuss school problems.

Local artist Florence Lyon to display watercolors in HUB. Robert Hage of Dartmouth College submits thirty recommendations on College's financial aid administration. Prof. Brubaker issues textbook Court and Commedia: The Italian Renaissance Stage. The Pre-Law Society is forming subgroup to deal with issues of women and law. Will Stutts' Mark Twain performance is favorably reviewed.

New York Times Columnist James B. Reston spoke at commencement. Charges of slander were leveled against Clarke W. Garrett, who reportedly made comments about Larry J. Warner in one of his classes. Gen. Harold K. Johnson is set to address ROTC graduates. David F. Brubaker received the Lindback Award for Distinguished Teaching at a Trustees' Meeting on May 30. Phi Beta Kappa voted on new members. 18 members of the Dickinsonian community are planning to study art and religion in India over the summer.

According to members of Dickinson's administration and the Carlisle community, town gown relations are improving. Professor Brubaker's freshman will present the 12th Annual freshman plays. The Interfraternity Council makes a statement that condemns the use of narcotics in fraternities. Robert Goldsand is set to perform at Carlisle Senior High School's auditorium. Several judicial bodies at Dickinson, including the SFJC (Student-Faculty Judicial Council), the SVHB (Student Violations Hearing Board), and WIC (Women's Interdormitory Council) delivered verdicts on cases.
