Placement Office

A time capsule is laid in the corner stone of Morgan Hall as it is being built. Classes are let out early for this ceremonious occasion. An anonymous organization donates $50,000 to the building of a new student activities center. Women's fraternities Chi Omega, Zeta Tau Alpha, Phi Mu and Pi Beta Phi pledge 73 freshmen girls. The Placement Office of Dickinson College opens its doors to seniors looking for job opportunities post-graduation. Several new classes are added to the 1956 course catalog including a introductory course in the social sciences all freshmen will be required to take.

Student Senate proposes that student representation be introduced on the President's Advisory Council. The resolution charging WDCV of falsification of accounts and misuse of funds was withdrawn after further investigation. For the first time since the founding of Dickinson, students sat down with the board of trustees to discuss campus concerns. The Summer Transition Program has been evaluated to the conclusion that the program will continue with suggested improvements.

Homecoming plans are announced. Dean Ness is selected as Humanities Chair. Jazz trombonist J. J. Johnson to perform on November 7. Phi Kappa Psi celebrates centennial. The Microcosm is used to investigate graduates. The music department will present "Amahl" and "Die Fledermaus." Three seniors are selected by ROTC to be top ranking officers. A new art exhibit, "The Heroic Encounter", will be presented. Freshman class officer nominations are announced. Historian Basil King gives talk on the history of New Zealand. New placement services are announced.
