Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the third Noonday Concert of the 1987-1988 academic year in Rubendall Recital  Hall. Students and faculty performed Robert Schumann's "Liebeslied", Clara Schumann's "Liebst Du um Schoenheit", Gerhard Maasz's "Kleine Lautenmusik", Harry Chalmiers' "Tattoo", Ralph Vaughn Williams' "Hands, Eyes and Heart" and "Silent Noon", Robert de Visee's "Suite in D Minor", Giralamo Kapsberger's "Toccata" and "Canzone", and Claude Debussy's "Estampes Pour le Piano".

1987 Parents' Day Concert

The Department of Music presented the College Choir, College-Community Orchestra, and Symphonic Band in the 1987 Parents' Day Concert at 11:00am in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "The Czar's Bride", Truman Bullard's "All Things Bright and Beautiful", selections from Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, E.E. Bagley's "National Emblem", Hugh Stuart's "Hymn for Band", and Anton Dvorak's "Finale from Serenade in D Minor".

Follies Presents "Oklahoma!"

This year's Follies play was Oklahoma!, which takes place at the turn of the century and follows the story of a young farm hand as he tries to win the affections of a woman. The cast and crew of the production included over 60 people and over two months of hard work. The play was presented in the Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium on Friday, April 7 and Saturday, April 8 at 8:45 pm.  

Garrabrandt's "The Fantasticks" is Performed

On Wednesday, February 23, One The Aisle, Inc presented The Fantasticks to an enthusiastic crowd. The play is based on the story of young love as it grows and fades over the seasons. The couple featured in the play must deal with the meddling and scheming of their fathers, causing many problems throughout the story.

The Department of Music presented the second Noonday Concert of the 1987-1988 academic year in Rubendall Recital Hall. Students and faculty performed Henry Purcell's "Let us Wander", Johannes Brahms' "A Bouquet of Waltzes", Nadia Boulanger's "Vous m'avez dit", and Richard Strauss' "Serenade in E-flat Major".

1987 Fall Orchestra Concert

The Department of Music presented the Chamber Orchestra in a concert at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. They played Franz Schubert's overture to Rosamunde; Antonio Vivaldi's "Autumn"; Hugo Wolf's "Anakreon's Grab" and "Verborgenheit"; Richard Strauss' "Zueignung"; and Anatol Liadov's "Religious Chant", "Christmas Carol", "Plaintive Song", "Humorous Song", "Legend of the Birds", "Cradle Song", "Round Dance", and "Village-Dance Song".

Faculty performed Louis Couperin's "Pieces de clavecin en fa majeur"; Luigi Boccherini's "Concerto in B-flat Major"; Robert Schumann's "Aus den Ostlichen Rosen", "Seit ich ihn gesehen", "Er, der Herrlichste von allen"; Cesare Negri's "Bianco fiore"; an anonymously-written picece called "Vaght belleze et bionde treccie d'oro vedi che per ti moro"; Fernando Sor's "Andante largo"; Leo Brouwer's "Danze Caracteristica"; and Ruben Varga's "Prelude and 4th Caprice". 

Senior Clarinet Recital

The Department of Music presented clarinetist Elaine Bergstresser in her senior recital at 8:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. She was joined by pianists Susan Eaken and Alta Marie Jumper, cellist June Shomaker, and soprano Christine Myers in performing Claude Debussy's "Premiere Rhapsodie", Francis Poulenc's "Sonata", Ludwig Spohr's "Concerto No. 1", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Trio in B-flat for Clarinet, Piano and Cello", Franz Schubert's "Der Hirt auf den Felsen", and G. Lange's "Flower Song".

Handel's "Concerto a due cori No. 3 in F Major", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Concerto No. 5 in A Major for violin and orchestra", Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings", and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 1 in C Major".

The Department of Music presented flutist David Joel Metzer in his senior recital at 2:00pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Accompanied by Truman Bullard, Beth Bullard, and Elaine Bergstresser, he played Walter Piston's "Sonata for flute and piano", Alfred J. Swan's "Trio for Piano, Flute and Clarinet", Michel Blavet's "Sonata in A Major", and Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata in E Minor and Bassso Continuo".

The Department of Music presented Donna Waltz in her senior recital at 4:15pm in Rubendall Recital Hall. Accompanied by Dorrie Nang, she sang George Frederich Handel's "Where'er you walk", "Come and trip it", "O sleep, why dost thou leave me?", and "Oh, had I Jubal's lyre"; George Bizet's "Berceuse", "Reve de la aimee", and "Pastorale"; Giovanni Pergolesi's "Se tu m'ami, se sospiri"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Vedrai carino"; Giuseppe Verdi's "Stornello"; and excerpts from Leonard Berstein's I Hate Music!.
