Baudelaire Exhibit

An exhibit of pictures concerning the life and work of Baudelaire, a 19th-century French author and art critic, was on display in the lobby of Bosler Hall beginning on Tuesday, October 27.  The exhibit was part of a series of materials on loan from the French embassy thanks to the efforts of Professor Daniel Joel Freval.

Mi-Young Park and Pong-Hi Park Perform

Violinist Mi-Young Park and pianist Pong-Hi Park gave a joint recital at 8:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. Their program included Johann Sebastian Bach's "Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata in G Major", Tartini's "Variations on a Theme by Corelli", Camille Saint-Saens' "Introduction et Rondo Capriccioso", and Franz Schubert's "Wanderer". 

Chapel Choir and Swarthmore College Singers Give Joint Concert

The Chapel Choir performed with the Swarthmore College Singers in a joint concert in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. The Swarthmore College Singers performed Vincent Persichetti's Mass (1960). The Chapel Choir sang Alfred Swan's "The Beatitudes" and Claudio Monteverdi's "Lagrime d'Amante al Sepolcro dell'Amata". The groups combined to conclude the program with Johann Schelle's "Komm, Jesu, Komm Aria a 5" and Johann Sebastian Bach's "Komm, Jesu, Komm Motet".

Noonday Concert

The Music Department presented the fourth Noonday Concert of the 1975-1976 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed such pieces as Ludwig van Beethoven's "Bagatelle, Opus 119 no. 1", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Fantasy in C Minor" and "Movement I" from Bassoon Concerto, Alan Hovhaness' "Upon Enchanted Ground", Hector Berlioz's "Trio des Jeunes Ismaelites" from L'Enfance du Christ, and Francesco Antonio Rosetti's "Grave-Allegro".

Chapel Choir Performs at Swarthmore College

The Chapel Choir performed with the Swarthmore College Singers in a joint concert at Swarthmore College. The Chapel Choir performed Ulysses Kay's "A New Song", "The Flowers in the Valley", "What's in a Name?", and "How Stands the Glass Around?"; Alfred Swan's "The Beatitudes"; and four Russian folk songs arranged by Truman Bullard. The groups combined to perform Johann Schelle's "Komm, Jesu, Komm Aria a 5" and Johann Sebastian Bach's "Komm, Jesu, Komm Motet". 

Jeanette Millard and Jane Gilmore Give Joint Flute Recital

Jeanette Millard and Jane Gilmore, students of Professors Jaynes and Bullard, gave a joint flute recital at 8:00pm in Memorial Hall. They played Giovanni Pergolesi's "Concerto for Flute and Strings in G major", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Implevit bonis" from Magnificat, Ernst Bloch's "Suite Modale", M. Paubon's "Six Pieces pour flute", Kent Kennan's "Night Soliloquy", Charles Koechlin's "Sonate pour deux flutes", and Gabriel Faure's "Berceuse" and "Pavane". 

Bicentennial Concert

The Music Department presented a Bicentennial Concert at 3:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. Featuring the College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra, the program included Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" and "An Outdoor Overture", Benjamin Carr's "Ave Maria", Alan Hovanhess' "Psalm and Fugue for String Orchestra", Charles Ives' "The Unanswered Question", Henry Cowell's "Hymn and Fuguing Tune #3", James Hewitt's "The Battle of Trenton", and John Philip Sousa's "The Stars and Stripes Forever".

The Music Department presented the second Noonday Concert of the 1975-1976 academic year in Memorial Hall. The program included Leonhard Lechner's "Innsburck, Ich Much Dich Lassen", Ludwig Van Beethoven's "Pathetique", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Sonata in A minor for flute alone", two movements from Claude Debussy's Petite Suite, Ulysses Kay's "Sing Unto the Lord a New Song", and the anonymously-written pieces "Von Himmel hoch, O Englein Kommt" and "Sellinger's Round". 

1975 Parents' Day Concert

The Music Department presented the College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra in a Parents' Day Concert on October 18.  The groups performed Beethoven's "Egmont Overture"; Mozart's "Catalogue Aria" from Don Giovanni, "Te Deum", "Placido e il mar", and "O voto tremendo"; Verdi's "Il Balen" from Il Trovatore; a selection of six Russian folk songs arranged by Truman Bullard; and Wagner's Die Meistersinger

The program included Melchior Franck's "Intrade I" from Partita zu sechs stimmen, Heinrich Schutz's "Attendite, popule meus" from Symphoniae Sacrae I, Philippe Gaubert's "Divertissement Grec", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata in E major, Opus 14 No. 1", Johann Pachelbel's "Canon in D major", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Minuet" from Serenade K. 375.

Dedicated to the memory of Elizabeth Fehr Booth, the program included Georg Phillipp Telemann's "Sonata in C minor"; Johannes Brahms' "Phanomen", "Die Schwestern", and "Am Strande"; Claude Debussy's "Rhapsodie"; Henry Purcell's "Aeolus' Song"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Va, l'error mio palese"; George Frederic Handel's "When You Marry Me"; and Gioacchino Rossini's "Allegro Vivace".

The program included Jean Marie Leclair's "Sonata III in D major", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata Opus 2, No. 1 in f minor", Claude Debussy's "Rhapsodie", Manuel de Falla's "Soneto a Cordoba", Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco's "Hark, hark, the Lark", Carlos Salzedo's "Chanson dans la nuit", and Franz Joseph Haydn's "Octet in F major".  

Choir and Orchestra Present "Music of Russia"

The College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra presented Music of Russia for their spring concert, which was held in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium at 3:00pm. They were joined by pianist Pong-Hi Park and the Marcia Dale Ballet. The orchestra opened the concert with P. I. Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" suite. Then the groups performed six Russian folk songs arranged by Truman Bullard: "Song of the Evening", "Song of the Fence Weavers", "The Lament of the Gray Duck", "The Unhappy Bride", "The Young Lover" and "The Maid in the Meadow".
