Victor Kendall and Clifford Bowen Perform

The Congress of African Studies and the Department of Music presented Victor Kendall and Clifford Bowen in a recital of flute and piano at 7:00pm in Memorial Hall. Their program included Handel's "Sonata No. 1 in E-minor", Martinu's "First Sonata for Flute and Piano", Bush's "Three African Sketches", and Bolling's "Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano". 

Mi-Young Park and Pong-Hi Park Perform

Violinist Mi-Young Park and pianist Pong-Hi Park gave a concert at 8:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. Presented by the Department of Music, the concert featured such pieces as Tommaso Antonio Vitali's "Ciaccona in G-minor for solo violin", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata No. 8 in C-minor", and Cesar Franck's "Sonata in A-major for violin and piano".

The Music Department presented a special evening Noonday Concert at 8:00pm in Memorial Hall. The program for the tenth concert of the 1976-1977 academic year included Johann Sebastian Bach's "Polonaise and Badinerie" and "Adante for Flute and Keyboard", Gregg Steinke's "Sonance", Franz Joseph Haydn's "Sonata in D-major", Mateo Carcassi's "Etude", two duets by Ferdinand Carulli, and three bagatelles by Alexi Heieff.

The Music Department presented the ninth Noonday Concert of the 1976-1977 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed such pieces as Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Allegro from Sinfonia Concertante", "Deh vieni alla finestra", and "Concerto for Flute and Harp"; and Giovanni Paisiello's "Saper Bramate". 

Chapel Choir Presents "A Program of Russian Orthodox and Folk Music"

The Chapel Choir performed "A Program of Russian Orthodox and Folk Music". The first half of the concert featured music of the Orthodox Church, including Sergei Rachmaninov's "To Thee O Lord" and "Rejoice in the Lord, ye Righteous"; and Alfred Swan's "Stir Up the Embers Seven-fold", "Cherubic Hymn", and "Let Everything that Breathes Praise the Lord".

The Department of Music presented the seventh Noonday Concert of the 1976-1977 academic year in Memorial Hall. The program of this concert included Johann Sebastian Bach's "Arioso", Enrique Eriquez de Valderrabano's "Se io m'accorgo", two movements Francesco Maria Veracini's "Sonata in G-major", three songs from Daniel Pinkham's Ecclesiastes, Ulysses Kay's "Prelude", Johannes Denjon's "Etude", and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata in F-minor". 

Music Department's Production of "Orfeo ed Euridice" Opens

Orfeo ed Euridice, an opera by C. W. Gluck, opened at 8:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. Presented by the Mostovoy Soloists, the College-Community Orchestra, and the College Choir, the production was also performed on February 27 at 3:00pm. The title roles of Orfeo and Euridice were played by Peter Papadakos and Ann Matthews, respectively.

The Department of Music presented the sixth Noonday Concert of the 1976-1977 academic year in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed Gabriel Pierne's "Pastorale"; A. Barthe's "Passacaille"; Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata in F-major"; Thomas Morley's "Sweet Nymph Come to Thy Lover", "Loe Heere Another Love", and "Flora Wilt Thou Torment Me?"; Jean Baptiste Loeillet's "Adagio and Allegro in A-minor", Domenico Zipoli's "Fughetta"; and Johann Sebastian Bach's "Minuet from French Suite No. 2".

The program for this concert included Nicolaus Bruhns' "Der Herr hat seinen Stuhl im Himmel bereitet", Johann Gottfried Walther's "Preludio con Fuga", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Toccata Adagio et Fuga", and Max Reger's "Kyrie eleison" and "Gloria in excelsis".

Music Department Presents "A Concert of Music from the Late Baroque"

The Department of Music presented George Houle, Peter Hurd, Victoria Hurd, and Glenna Houle in a "Concert of Music from the Late Baroque". The quartet played George Frideric Handel's "Sonata in D-major", pieces from Francois Couperin's "Sixth Order" and "Allemande a deux Clavecins", pieces from Jacques Hotteterre's "Second Suite", Francesco Geminiani's "Sonata in E-minor", and George Telemann's "Concerto II".

Southern District Orchestra Festival Concert

The Pennsylvania Music Educators Association and the Department of Music presented the Southern District High School Orchestra Festival, which ran January 13-15 and ended in a concert. The program for this concert included Johannes Brahms' "Academic Festival Overture", Arcangelo Corelli's "Concerto Grosso in C-minor", Alan Hovahness' "Mysterious Mountain (Symphony 2)", Giovanni Gabrieli's "Canzona Quarti Toni", Charles Ives' "The Unanswered Question", Ralph Vaughan Williams' "English Folk Song", and Modest Mussorgsky's "Pictures from an Exhibition".

The program included Antonin Dvorak's "Serenade in D minor for ten wind instruments, cello, and double bass", Passereau's "Il est bel et bon", Jacques Arcadelt's "Laissez la verde couleur"; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Quintet in E-flat major for piano and winds", Johann Sebastian Bach's "My heart ever faithful", Frederic Chopin's "Polonaise in C-sharp minor", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Ha! Welch ein Angenblick!", and Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols".
