Collegium Musicum Presents "Musica Espanola del Renacimiento"

The Department of Music presented Collegium Musicum in their annual concert at 3:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. Musica Espanola del Renacimiento opened with four motets by Tomas Luis Victoria: "Ave Maria (a4)", "Gaudent in Coelis", "Ascendens Christus in Altum", and "Ave Maria (a8)".

John Church Gives Recital

Student John Church gave a recital in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium at 4:00pm. Church sang Franz Schubert's "Seligkeit", "Gute Nacht", and "Der Leiermann"; Gabriel Faure's "N'est-ce pas?" and "La Lune Blanche luit dans les Bois"; Henri Duparc's "Lamento"; Hector Berlioz's "Au Cimetiere"; Ned Rorem's "I Strolled Across an Open Field"; Douglas Moore's "Thou Hast Made Me"; "The Willow Song"; Henry Purcell's "Fairest Isle" and "Man was for the Woman Made"; Tobias Hume's "Tobacco"; and Frederick Handel's "Ch'io mai vi Possa" and "Where'er You Walk". 

1974 Choir and Orchestra Spring Concert

The College Choir and the College-Community Orchestra gave a concert in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium at 3:00pm. The orchestra played Georges Bizet's "L'Arlesienne Suite No. 2", Robert Schumann's "Concerto for Piano", Charles Ives' "The Unanswered Question", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Concerto for Clarinet". The show closed with both groups performing three choruses from G.F. Handel's The Messiah: "And the Glory of the Lord", "Lift up Your Heads", and "Hallelujah Chorus".

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the seventh Noonday Concert of the 1973-1974 academic year in Memorial Hall. The program included Karl Stamitz's "Serenades", the first movement of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Sonata in C Major (KV 330)", Josquin des Pres' "El Grillo", Giacomo Meyerbeer's "Hirtenlied", the first movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's "Sonata No. 10", and Alan Hovhaness' "The Spirit of Ink". The show concluded with two folk dances performed by the Dickinson College Israeli Dance Troupe. 

1974 Student Recital

Students Heather McGregor and Carol Kelley, accompanied by Mel Koch and Eric Fletcher respectively, performed in a joint recital in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium at 7:00pm. McGregor played five pieces on the flute: Michel Blavet's "La Bouget (Sonata VI)", Esteban Eitler's "Piece for Flute Alone", Claude Debussy's "Syrinx", Albert Roussel's "Tityre", and Ernest Bloch's "Suite Modale".

The Performer's Committee for Twentieth-Century Music

The Performer's Committee for Twentieth-Century Music gave a concert at 10am in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. Entitled "A Concert of Twentieth-Century Vocal and Instrumental Music", the show began with Henry Cowell's "Tiger", "Floating", "The Tides of Manaunaun", and "Advertisement"; Anton Webern's "Der Tag ist Vergangen", "Die Geheimnisvolle Flote", "Schien Mir's, als ich Sah Die Sonne", and "Gleich und Gleich"; Arnold Schoenberg's "Fantasy for violin with piano accompaniment", and Mario Davidovsky's "Synchronisms No. 6 for piano and electronic sounds".

Noonday Concert

The Department of Music presented the first Noonday Concert of the 1973-1974 academic year in Memorial Hall of Old West. Students and faculty played Joseph Haydn's "Flute Trio No. 3", Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Fantasia in D. Minor", Claude Debussy's "Syrinx", Giuseppe Verdi's "Eri tu Che Macchiavi Quell Anima" from Un Ballo in Maschera, Heitor Villa-Lobos' "Choros No. 2", and Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Sonata in E Major". 

Music Department Presents Musica Deo Sacra

The Department of Music presented the College Choir in a recital of music from the sixteenth, seventeenth, and twentieth centuries at 3:00pm. Called Musica Deo Sacra, the performance was held in the College Chapel in Allison Methodist Church. The program included Thomas Tallis' "Motet in Forty Parts", Henry Purcell's "Music for the Funeral of Queen Mary", R. Vaughan Williams' "Mass in G Minor", and Williams' "Motet for Choir, Brass and Organ".

The Department of Music presented the second Noonday Concert in Memorial Hall. Students and faculty performed a program of pieces including Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Fantasia in D Minor", George Frideric Handel's "Care Selve", Carlos Salzedo's "Fraicheur", Charles Gounod's "Ave Maria", Paul Hindemith's "Sonata for Flute and Piano", Johann Sebastian Bach's "Three Part Inventions: No. 6 in E major, No. 3 in D major, and No. 15 in B minor", Frederic Chopin's "Waltz in E minor", Clement Janequin's "Ce moys de mai", and Claudin de Sermisy's "Au jolly bois".

The program included Johannes Brahms' "Trip in E-flat Major", Brahms' "Vergebliches Standchen", Michael Head's "The Singer", C.W. von Gluck's "Che faro senza Euridice", Jean Baptise Loeillet's "Quintet in B minor", an old French tune entitled "Viens Aurore", Eric Thiman's "I love all graceful things", Borlet's "Ma tredol rosignol", Chalres Gounod's "Ah! Je veux vivre", William Byrd's "Ave verum corpus", and Victoria's "O quam gloriosum". 

Choir and Orchestra Give John F. Kennedy Memorial Concert

The College Choir, Chapel Choir and the College-Community Orchestra gave a concert in memory of John F. Kennedy at 3:00pm in Anita Tuvin Schlechter Auditorium. They performed Darius Milhaud's "Murder of a Great Chief of State", Henry Cowell's "Gravely and Vigorously", Ludwig van Beethoven's "Symphony No. 3", a Gregorian chant entitled "Montes Gelboe", George Frederick Handel's "Saul", and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's "Requiem Mass".
