  • May Morris (class of 1909) and Mulford Stough were promoted to the rank of full Professor.
  • The Class of 1924 donated a portrait of Professor Ernest Vuilleumier.
  • Jurgen von Oertzen (class of 1934), a German exchange student, died during the Battle of Riga in 1941.
  • Elinor G. Derr (class of 1944) had "a key role" in an experiment conducted at the University of Maine regarding children' abilities to learn foreign languages.
  • Physical Education Professor Richard H. MacAndrews retired after working at Dickinson for 38 years.

  • The College launched a ten-year development program for building and additional endowment with a goal of $750,000.
  • The new South College, which was located behind the Alumni Gymnasium, opened.
  • The College held a four day celebration of the 175th anniversary of the founding of Dickinson College. The program included a parade with several dozen floats that depicted events in the College's history.
  • Henry Logan (class of 1910) created the M. William Wedell Scholarship Fund with a $15,000 donation.
  • President William W. Edel (class of 1915) dedicated the Benjamin Rush campus, which had formally been called the Mooreland campus.

  • Lieutenant Richard H. Ellis (class of 1941) and Staff Sergeant Evan L. Howell (class of 1941) received the Air Medal for bravery while serving with the Army air force in the South Pacific.
  • Lieutenant James L. McIntire (class of 1935) described how he helped rescue a group of men who had been adrift on a raft for 83 days.
  • Josephine Brunyate Meredith (class of 1901), Dean of Women and Associate Professor of English, became the first woman elected as a full professor.
  • Edward M. Griffith (class of 1943), who was honorably discharged as a result of wounds received at Guadalcanal, became the first Dickinsonian to return from the war and become a student of the College again.
  • William W. Edel (class of 1915) was promoted to captain, the highest rank provided for in the Navy Chaplin Corps.

  • Commander William W. Edel (class of 1915), a Navy Chaplain, helped sponsor the construction of a non-sectarian memorial chapel at a US Naval Air Station in New Jersey. 
  • Rev. W. Galloway Tyson (class of 1915) was appointed superintendent of the West District of Philadelphia Methodist Episcopal church. 
  • Howard W. Selby (class of 1913) was nominated for the office of Director of Rotary International. 
  • Dr. Earl S. Johnston (class of 1913), an associate at the Smithsonian Institute, succeeded in growing tomatoes without soil in a laboratory. 
  • Reverend Ralph L. Minker (class of 1920) officiated Delaware's first airplane wedding, with the couple saying their vows at 3,000 feet.
