Old South College

The new academic year opens with a ceremony; Professor Leon C. Prince gives matriculation sermon. Wilbur H. Norcross ’07 and G. Lafayette Cram join faculty. Miss Helen Burns ’12 becomes college librarian. Sophomores win annual flag scrap. YMCA holds annual reception for new students. Metzger Hall is renovated and fitted with electric lights; has highest occupancy yet. The deceased Professor William Lambert Gooding is remembered. Conway Hall, South College, and Biddle Field are renovated.

Belles Lettres Society holds a sophomore oratorical contest. The Freshman begin the croquet season. The decision is made to close the college chapel. The Temperance Movement comes to Carlisle, with dramatic results. Seniors hold a shooting match in the lawn of South College. The choir of the Second Presbyterian Church entertains students on campus.

Improvements to be made to dormitories, recitation halls, and laboratories and new athletic facilities to be built. Seniors promote the performance of a musical comedy in June to coincide with commencement week.

Work on the new gymnasium starts on the grounds of Old South College. President Morgan's wife dies unexpectedly of a heart attack and is buried in Carlisle. Omicron Delta Kappa, a national honorary fraternity, has granted a charter to Dickinson College. Raymond R. Brewer, Dickinson's representative at West China Union University, is on a leave of absence and expected to visit the College campus very soon.

Freshman class enrollment is a record high. Practices begin for what is promised to be "Dickinson's greatest football team of the present decade." Fraternities commence rushing for new members. The College is left a large sum by Robert Weaver, class of 1875. Faculty changes this year bring May Morris as head librarian, Frances A. Janney as Women's Athletic Director, Henry W. Monyer as lab assistant, and Herbert L. Davis returns after two years to the chemistry department.
