the Public Affairs Symposium's topic this year was "Human Rights" and the keynote speaker this year was Hodding Carter III, former Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs. Candidates for Student Senate are featured in an article. Dave Levitt studied abroad in various locations in the Far East for a semester and gives advice to readers. Dave Freysinger has become the new leading scorer for basketball. The Women's Basketball team has made Dickinson history by competing in the Middle Atlantic Conference's tournament.

In this edition, a massive food fight in the dining hall resulted in a $679.09 bill to shampoo and clean the damaged rugs. The Student Senate elections resulted in Avery Leslie winning Senate President, and the students voted to keep the cafeteria closed to commuting students. President Sam Banks inducted into the athletic Hall of Fame Joseph J. Myers for basketball and football, Reno F. DiOrio for football, and G. Raymond Weaver for basketball and baseball. Bill Boucher and Mark Hash won third and fourth place respectively at the Penn State Invitational Ski Tournament.

Special Task Force on Residential and Social Life forms under Pres. Banks. Robert LeValley is selected to study at Leningrad State University. The story of Project IMPACT is featured. Faculty passes a resolution concerning the recruitment of minority and foreign students. John Kemeny opens the Science for Survival Symposium with an address relating scientific advancement to societal issues. Students concerned over the issue of Prof. Marvin Israel's tenure meet with Pres. Rubendall. WDCV expects to "go FM" soon. Faculty (most requesting anonymity) respond to questions about the Israel tenure controversy.

In ATS, the College Choir, Chapel Choir and College-Community Orchestra will open the Young Artists-in-Residence Week. The College plans to present its Arts Award to the Philadelphia Orchestra. Musician Joshua Rifkin will be one participant in the Young Artists-in-Residence Program. At a Faculty meeting, a report presented by the Admissions and Financial Aid Committee stresses student diversity. Story Theatre Troupe's Rites of Passage is set to debut this weekend. Bill Wiley is also highlighted as a participant in next week's Young Artists-in-Residence Program.

Faculty adopts three resolutions of the Academic Program Committee: the establishment of separate laboratory and lecture courses for Physical Chemistry, the addition of English 210 to the fall curriculum, and the introduction of a Special Interdepartmental Field of Concentration major. World renowned anthropologist Dr. Margaret Mead will receive the 20th annual Priestley Award. Senate discusses the bomb threat made to the Union. The summer Classics Program is a great success and will continue. Carlisle's Community Action Program, CAP, may be discontinued due to lack of funds.

Pass/ fail options, freshmen grades, and general grading systems are discussed at an open hearing held by the Academic Standards Committee who are currently evaluating the grading system. An IPR subcommittee proposes to implement a college legislative body consisting of faculty, students, and administrators. Renovation of the Durbin Oratory is completed to make the chapel more appropriate for all worship and a re-dedication ceremony will follow. The college will open ATS for experimental use in February.

Several resolutions pertaining to the curriculum and a change in faculty evaluation procedures pertaining to tenure and salary increase are requested. John Denver will present a concert. The Academic Standards Committee studies proposals to modify the grading system. Faculty will present a student directed and produced production of A Thurber Carnival with proceeds benefiting Project Africa. The Mermaid Players current production of R.U.R. gets mediocre reviews with a great production but boring plot.
