Dickinson sues Lebo Engineering, Inc., for unexpected expenses and delays in the construction of the Rector Science Complex. Students travel to Philadelphia for the 23rd Annual Campus Philly College Day. Althouse to open for the Spring semester. Dickinson launches a Rape Advocate Program. Campus Life offers Leadership Boot Camp Sessions. Women's Soccer won an important conference match against Ursinus College. Men's Soccer defeats #3 ranked Swarthmore. Football wins against McDaniel College. Women's Volleyball beats Ursinus.

Plans for a combined Doll Show and bazaar in December are announced. Soccer and volleyball are added to the college's sports program. Red identification tags are introduced to provide students admission to sports games. The dramatic club performs a one-act play as a part of its opening meeting. The honor court begins to devise a permanent honor system. President James Morgan announces that men living in fraternity houses may deduct the cost of renting a dorm room from their bill. Four new members are added to the Dickinsonian's editorial staff.

Dickinsonian, October 10, 1940

The passage of the Selective Service Act requires ninety-two of the colleges' four hundred and twelve male students and seven faculty members to register for the United States military. This is the first peace-time conscription in the history of the nation. Senior women prepare to move into a new dormitory called Hayes House, allowing them to leave Metzger Hall and the strict restrictions that come with living there. Two women enroll for the Civilian Pilot Training Program. The Freshman and Sophomore rules will both be enforced by a rebuilt Student Tribunal.

Henry C. Hill, warden of the Federal Penitentiary in Lewisburg, gives speech on "The Problem of the Criminal" before the Young People's Fellowship at the Allison Memorial Methodist Church.  Johnny Bruner organizes a jazz band on campus composed of seven undergraduates.  The Dramatic Club continues to rehearse for "the Bat," set to perform the play on November 10.  Professor Horace E.

President Clinton attempts to fix the health care system with a bill that will provide health care to the uninsured. Paleontologist Mark Norell speaks during Common Hour on his recent digs in Mongolia. Writing Director at Brown University Tori Haring-Smith leads a discussion on writing across the curriculum. Russian President Boris Yeltsin dissolves Parliament. A History of the Carlisle theatre as well as continuing plans for its renovation are presented. The Women's cross-country team sees their winning streak come to an end.

Two separate car accidents hospitalize students. Eric Saylor hit a bridge abutment and had to be hospitalized. Chris Napoli, Frank Norris and David Ridgeway were in a two-car accident after going through a blinking red light and getting hit by a pick-up truck. The College has a $20 million campaign goal, set for five years, and according to Robert White of the Communications and Development they have around $10 million and three more years to reach the goal. The Women's Swim team places 14th at the NCAA Division III National Swimming and Diving Championships.
