Fred Holmes '24 wins first prize in the annual Freshman Oratorical Contest. The Dickinsonian attends a meeting of the Intercollegiate Newspaper Association at Gettysburg. The Freshman class votes 168-43 in favor of the Honor System. The Sophomore and Junior classes, Union Philosophical Society, McIntyre Literary Society, Harmon Literary Society, and Greek Club elect new officers.

Dickinsonian, May 8, 1926

Founders Day and May Day will be celebrated Thursday of this week. The annual Senior Picnic will be held at Medowbrook Park this year. Mr. G. R. Hemminger presents the College with a rare stuffed "Duckbill" (a platypus) through Prof. B. Floyd Rinker of the English department. The Track team prepares to meet their Gettysburg rivals. Results of a poll by the Dickinsonian show that students favor the current prohibition law. Ohio State Senator Simeon D. Fess will be this years Commencement speaker.

The All-College Social Committee announces plans for the Founders' Day celebration, to include two athletic events and a play produced by the Greek Club, among other things. Pi Beta Phi, as a part of the Pan Hellenic Council's lecture series, hosts a lecture on health featuring Dr. E H Matzke, a female doctor from Philadelphia. Five junior students will take part in an oratorical contest for the Pierson Prize. The YWCA elects a new cabinet. Twelve students will attend the General Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, to be held in Springfield, MA.

The entirety of the Student Senate with the exception of the Senate President resigns and forms a committee for student government reform after new regulations were put into place by the college administration, claiming that the administration's actions inhibited their ability to function as a self-governing body. A point system is instituted for the Freshman-Sophomore scraps. Several concerts are announced for upcoming meetings of chapel. Members of the YMCA provide inmates at the Cumberland County jail with magazines, boxing gloves, and other items for entertainment.

Joe Lightner, a former Penn State football star, is elected the new coach of Dickinson's football team after the resignation of Coach Murphy. Student Senate elects a new president. Description of frog dissections in Biology Lab. The Interfraternity Council denies the petitions of two Jewish fraternities who wished to be allowed on campus. Play-pageant based on the history of Dickinson is planned as a commencement activity for the sesquicentennial. Swarthmore girls vote to get rid of sororities. Phi Kappa Sigma awarded trophy for the interfraternity boxing championship.

The Board of Trustees met and discussed modernizing the campus, the endowment, and alumni contributions. A speakers' bureaus will be formed to allow students to practice public speaking outside of debating. Plans for the Miami Triad formal dance, hosted by Beta Theta Pi, Phi Delta Theta and Sigma Chi, are almost complete. Speech on "Patriotism versus Nationalism" will occur at the next meeting of the Young People's Fellowship. Belles Lettres Society to gain new officers.

Former exchange student from Germany writes letter about hitch-hiking experience. The Alumni Council meets again to discussion moving John Dickinson's body closer to the school. Dickinson lost Homecoming football game. Women's Glee Club performed at the buffet supper hosted by the Women's Student Government Association. Men's soccer coach complains about lack of support for the successful team this season.
