President Waugh proposes changes to the curriculum, which the faculty will vote on soon.
President Waugh and professors attend a hearing in Harrisburg to speak against the newly proposed bill that would end liberal arts colleges' ability to train secondary teachers. Sophomores to hold their annual dance on Saturday. Junior Prom plans are being finished. Men's Glee club to perform Sunday evening. Four new juniors are elected to the Alpha Sigma Gamma, honorary journalism award. An article about the contents of girls' waste-paper baskets. Fraternities figure out new favors to give girls that come to their dances. Belles Lettres Society elects new officers.
The Dickinson Players presented the play “Death Takes a Holiday” in the Carlisle High School Auditorium. Rev. Phillips Packer Elliot will be the Week-of-Prayer speaker at the chapel exercises. A history of the Doll Show is reported. The Greek Club presents a program on Greek music. The College will observe the first week back after vacation as a Week-of-Prayer. The students produce a new student publication called The Dickinson Devil. The Debate Squad begins their season with the Debate Forum at Juniata. Dickinson eliminates the ice hockey team.
Dickinson students and members of the Allison Memorial church will work together to create of performance of a Nativity play. The Men’s Senate ordered its Tribunal to remove several Freshman Rules, affective after the winter break. It is discovered that the library has great diversity in books. The Women’s Senate plans future events for the women of the college. The Women’s Club gives a banquet in honor of the tenth anniversary of the founding of the Carlisle branch of the American Association of University Women. The debate squad will participate in a debate forum at Juniata College.
Professor Leon C. Prince gives a talk on the Golden Rule as aid for an economy recovery for the country. The soccer team loses to Delaware. The Debate Squad elects new officers. The Deputation Committee meets and plans out their work for the year. More freshmen are penalized by the Men's Tribunal for failing to memorize college songs and cheers. The faculty decides to shorten classes on Saturday so that everyone will be able to attend the football game against Gettysburg.
The rising junior class holds elections for the upcoming year, already beginning to discuss such events as the 1937 Junior Prom. Wheel and Chain, the women's honorary senior fraternity, selects its new members. Belles Lettres Literary Society plans its sesqui-centennial celebration. Charles R. Gay, president of the New York Stock Exchange, is announced as commencement speaker. Five members of the Debate Squad are inducted into Tau Kappa Alpha, an honorary forensic fraternity.
The Debating squad packs a full schedule for the spring, including the annual triangular debate with Gettysburg and Muhlenberg. The junior class has decided to dedicate the 1929 Microcosm to William Weidman Landis, Professor of Mathematics and Astronomy. Dr. Samuel Parkers Cadman, President of the Federal Council of the Churches of Christ in America and well-known public speaker, will come to speak at Dickinson on Jan. 13th. The stylings of master impersonator William Sterling Battis are well received by students. The College Orchestra struggles with Chapel music.
Forty-seven Dickinson men compete for a space on the Debate Squad. The Homecoming program schedule is announced. The Greek Club has their first meeting of the year. Thoughts on the 1936 presidential candidates are given. News on President Roosevelt is also given. For the first time, the Dramatic Club will sponsor a musical play. The soccer team defeats Ursinus.
More plans for Pan-Hell Week are being made, especially for the Pan-Hell Dance. A group of students is going with Prof. Fink to the 7th Annual Debaters Conference at State College. Defense stamps will be given when Kappa Sigma hosts its annual Spring Formal rather than corsages. Student Opinion Surveys of America poll about the lack of math college students have studied. Donald Ellswoth Austin '38 is the first Dickinsonian to die in the war with the sinking of the U.S.S. Pope in the South West Pacific. Mixed ping pong tournament announced.
Men from Dickinson will travel to attend a large Interfraternity Council meeting at Gettysburg College. Mixed ping pong tournament is being planned by Coach Kahler. A graduate from 1934 has just qualified as a sharpshooter in the US Marine Corps. Dickinson begins to require physical education as a graduation requirement for men.
Lambda Sigma Pi elects eight new members. Union Philosophical Society to discuss "war aims" in their next meeting. A Student Opinion Surveys of America poll reveals that three of every five women are volunteering with civilian defense activities, but less than three of ten men, not already in the Armed Services, are helping with defense duties. Mid-Winter Ball was attended by 130 couples or 260 students. Three seniors elected to join Phi Beta Kappa.

Twelve semester hour summer session is being planned for the upcoming summer. The college decides to allow subfreshmen to be admitted for the second semester to follow one of two course types--rushing guidelines for these students are included in the article. New officers elected for the Dickinsonian.
Carlisle has a practice air raid, an article lists the improvements that Carlisle needs to make. Robert C. Deitz '41 is the first person from Dickinson believed to be lost in World War II--he is reported as missing in action and presumed to be dead. Dickinson's Board of Trustees has approved the plan to purchase $85,000 of United States Defense Bonds for the endowment fund. Article on how students, specifically the residents of Metzger Hall, are dealing with the United States' declaration of war. A University of Texas poll reveals that 50% of girls want to become housewives.
A joint-committee is created to organize and coordinate extra-curricular activities to to help with defense service or preparation. The most recent Student Opinion Surveys of America poll has revealed that students believe that war increases opportunities. The Red Cross to create a unit on Dickinson's campus which will be affiliated with the Carlisle branch. Plans are starting to be made in case of attack, specifically a mock air raid will be staged on Sunday (directions for the air raid are included in this issue). Metzger Hall held an open house for faculty last week.
Sororities gain new members as bids were accepted. The Dickinsonian will be involved in a nation-wide Student Opinion Surveys of America which will try to compile data on student's opinions (the first question will be "Are you for or against changing the neutrality laws so that American ships may be armed and sent into war zones?"). Reading periods created in each course to allow students the opportunity for more independent research. Thirty-one undergraduate men arrested during a celebratory march to Metzger Hall. A mixed recreational swimming is being planned.
