Though casts as the underdog, the football team slays Villa Nova in a 13-2 victory.  The College plans a Halloween Party. First year / Fraternity plans are voted down again, with the next proposition being to hold a series of smokers. Professor Herbert Wing, Jr. Debating Coach at Dickinson, is elected president of the Pennsylvania State Debating Association. The American Irish Historical Society will hold an essay contest on "The Irish Chapter in American History." Dickinson's football team is praised by a Philadelphia Paper.

Dickinsonian is reorganized to reflect war-time conditions. Low attendance rate at Sharp Room leads to concerns about future of the library. Dr. Wing explains the Army Air Force Program which Dickinson is contributing to.

Professor Herbert Wing of the Greek Department and coach debating is named president of the State Intercollegiate Debating Association of delegates from twenty colleges in the state. The Greek Club presents a play entitled "The Sorrows of Demeter" Friday night.

Famed author and lecturer Dr. George A. Coe speaks on student government in colleges in chapel. Subjects for debate this year are chosen by the Pennsylvania State Debating Association and twenty men are chosen for the Dickinson debate squad. The football team takes a victory over the Pennsylvania Military College. Dr. Kirby Page will address the joint Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C.A. meeting on world affairs. The College gets excited about homecoming weekend. Try-outs begin for the varsity basketball team.

Mrs. Helen Wing, wife of Dr. Herbert Wing, Jr., passed away after a lingering illness. Doll Dance scheduled to be held on 17 December. The National Poetry Association announces that its "National Intercollegiate Poetry Anthology for 1953" will include a poem by Bert Garber. Pi Delta Epsilon, national honorary journalistic fraternity, taps three Dickinsonians: Robert High, Sidney Kline, and Harold Hoffman. First Boyd Lee Spahr Lecture to be delivered by Dr. Page Smith, a research scholar with the Institute of Early American History and Culture.

Wine Hats extend period in which they act to enforce freshmen rules. Student Senate requests meeting with President Edel and Board of Trustees concerning Homecoming. Herbert Wing receives Robert Coleman Chair of History. Freshman class officers are elected. Juniors win intramural girls hocky season.

Ten senior students have been chosen for Who's Who. Senior Class establishes The Gilbert Malcolm Scholarship. The 1960 edition of "The Microcosm" is dedicated to Dr. Herbert Wing. Herbert Wing, Wilber Brucker, Ray Crist ann John Bonnell will all receive honorary degrees at commencement. United States Steel Foundation donates $20,000 for scholarships. Charles Flint Kellogg is appointed Acting Chair of History Department. Significant events of the academic year are recalled. Seven new faculty members are hired, three professors will leave. Dr.

Dr. Herbert Wing will retire after 45 years of service to the college. More Parents' Weekend activities are announced. Freshman counselors for next year are announced. Aquatic Club presents its annual Aquacade. Campus men are given a tour of Drayer Hall, a women's dorm. The first Arts Festival will end with the Mermaid Players final presentation of "Major Barbara." The new "Literary Bulletin" is well received. Debate team places fifth at Rutgers. Wilber M. Brucker, Secretary of the Army, will speak at Commencement Exercises. The Mary Dickinson Club awards its first scholarship.
