Mailbox in front of HUB removed in accordance with new national energy conservation policy. Phi Delta Theta celebrates 100 years at Dickinson. The Service Center cites office negligence as cause for large amount of waste on campus. Fall Fest Charity Weekend raises considerable funds. Grouping all fraternities together on quad is called a mistake by the President's Commission on the Status of Women at Dickinson College. Belles Lettres holds reading series.

Dickinsonian, October 7, 1982

Fall Fest was once again a success in the community. Spanish and Italian Professor Grace Jarvis was one of 25 educators chosen in a national competition to spend six weeks studying Italian culture. New escort programs were created for students by students, such as The Dickinson Student Watch Organization, Phi Beta Escort Service and the EFFORT Escort Service. The Cross Country team lost its undefeated streak. Women's soccer won an important game against Lehigh, which evened out their record.

Controversy surrounds the resignation of Michael Netto, director of Dining Services. HUB to be remodeled, as well as the Tome Science Building, several offices moving. College provides beds to students despite over-enrollment and lack of space. New regulations for parties where alcohol is present are put into place. Suspect sought in rash of dorm intruder incidents. Cafeteria lines are too long. Marzenna Kowalik is studying at Dickinson from Poland. Perspectives on Freshman orientation are given by two first-years. Student spends the summer in China.

Students at the College raised money for Program for Education Enrichment and Recreation (PEER) and United Way at Fall Fest, a talent show. The Health Center has recently hired its first gynecologist, Nancy Taylor, rather than before where they just offered gynecological advice. An article discusses different study abroad options in London, England, Toulouse, France, Malaga, Spain, Bologna, Italy and Bremen, Germany. Sexuality Education Week begins at Dickinson, sponsored by the Sexuality Resource Group. The Women's Rugby team is already off to a good start in the season.

A Symposium entitled "The Art and Craft of the Book" draws a big crowd. Fall Fest, held the past weekend, raises money for charities in the Carlisle area, PEER, and United Way. Illustrator Maurice Sendak gives a presentation on his work in Weiss. The Pittsburgh Chamber Opera performs Cosi Fan Tutte in ATS to rave reviews. Singer Warren Zevon gives a poor performance at Fall Fest.

In this issue, "grade inflation" is the topic of conversation in academia due to the 1960s and 1970s having a higher percentage of A's. Equality for Females: Our Rights Today or EFFORT promoted lecture on reproductive rights in lieu of anti-abortion legislation. The football team has not been doing well for the past almost three seasons. Fall Fest is in its fourth year and more successful than ever.
