Charles R. Gerrow, Professor of Political Science at Dickinson, makes a bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. An article discusses the issue of affirmative action. Discussion of upcoming plans for the Public Affairs Symposium as it focuses on the notion of equality. Women's Basketball continues a seven-game winning streak. New records are set in Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field.

The YMCA raises money for missionaries.  The results of the Athletic Association's annual officer election are announced.  Students are strongly encouraged to buy tickets for future Star Course events.  The Belles Lettres Literary Society elects officers for the year.  Students skate on the frozen creek.  The completion of Denny Hall is authorized by the board of trustees.  Dr. Prince is elected to the chair of History and Political Science.  A ladies literary society, the Harman Literary Society, is organized, and officers elected.

Dean Dr. William Tyler returns to campus after conducting classes elsewhere worldwide. Professor Whitfield Bell, Jr., presented a paper on Early America in Williamsburg, Virginia. The Cultural Affairs Committee announces the arrangement of three musical events to take place in Bosler Hall in the future. The Little Theater production fo "Beggar on Horeback" will be the first arena type play at Dickinson. The Department of Political Science announces sponsored trip for mid-November to the new United Nations Headquarters on the East River.

March of Dimes begins. Fred Wilson is elected Student Senate chairman. William Lonsdale Taylor becomes head of political science department. Virginia Rickenbach elected Mid-Winter Ball queen.

In conjunction with Religion in Life Week, the Mermaid Players are presenting a mortality play called "Everyman." There will be a trip for political science students to Washington DC. The French Club will be taking a trip to Philadelphia to see an opera; all interested parties are invited. President Edel is meeting with national leaders to discuss and learn about U.S. global strategy. Phi Mu and Sigma Chi are playing each other in a basketball game to raise money for the new Student Activity Center.

In this edition, the Math Department has been having trouble filling a professor's vacant position for almost a year and is looking for someone with a computer science background. The ROTC program has experienced a doubling of members this year, showing an increase in interest and participation in the program. Three years after the Three Mile Island nuclear explosion, the site is considering reopening the plant among many local people who oppose them. Dean Hawkins will leave his post as college Dean. An open hearing held on graduation requirements examines four proposals made by the Academic Program Committee--1. "A student must complete and pass 34 courses with a cumulative average of 2.00" 2. "Students who have been admitted as degree candidates and are carrying three to five and one-half courses are full-time matriculated" 3. "The normal maximum of five and one-half courses may not be exceeded without permission of the Committee on Academic Standards" 4.
