Field Day

Professor Rittenhouse resigns. Mr. McAllister wins the Union Philosophical Society's annual oratorical contest. President Reed moves his residence from East College to the new presidential mansion. Union Philosophical Society elects officers. Field Day is held. Turpin, '90, represents Dickinson at the Intercollegiate Athletic Association's field sports competition. A new fraternity, Alpha Zeta Pi, forms. Mr. Hynson wins the Belles Lettres Society's annual sophomore oratorical contest.

Belles Lettres Society elects officers. Athletic Association creates a committee to increase membership. Field Day is reinstated. Dickinson sends representatives to the District YMCA Convention. Emory Hall is prepared to house a new Law School.

Rumors that President McCauley will resign are dispelled by multiple sources.  Some minor renovations are made to the college during the clean-up of the mess after the construction of Bosley Memorial Library Hall.  Two baseball games, played against Mechanicsburg and Gettysburg, are both won by Dickinson.  Field Day is held after two rain date delays, and is a great success. 

The Freshman class is divided into factions, pro-co-ed and anti-co-ed.  The gymnasium opening is postponed for another school year.  The Athletic Association holds the first Field Day, and it is a great success. 

The junior class decides to publish a Microcosm, the first in many years to do so.  The Jacob Tome Scientific Building is opened.  The college is taking athletics more seriously, and the number of enrolled students increases.  With the opening of the Scientific Building, Professor Himes takes up specialty in Physics instruction and Professor Lindsay in Laboratory and Chemistry instruction.  The Trustees decide that students can enter the societies without pause once they enter the college.  The Seniors defeat the Juniors in baseball on October 3 with a scor

Commencement is held.  The Junior Class Oratorical Contest is held.  The Board of Trustees defends President McCauley and the actions of the Faculty regarding the Hill Case.  Sigma Chi, Chi Phi, and Phi Kappa Psi hold banquets.  Field Day is held.  Dickinson beats Letort in baseball 17 to 6.
