The International YMCA's Week of Prayer is planned for next week and attendance is encouraged.  The senior class lacks adequate astronomy equipment.  The editors join in the debate over opening the literary portions of the literary societies' meetings to the public.  Dr. Reed's illness continues.  The winners of the entrance prizes are announced.  The Friday following Thanksgiving Day is granted as a holiday.  The Great Dane newly purchased as school mascot arrives on campus.

Dickinsonian, November 6, 1897

Professor Marcus D. Buell of the Boston Theological Seminary addresses the YMCA.  James Young performs some dramatic selections for the campus.  The Orchestra and Glee Club prepare for their upcoming concert.  Dr. Reed is confined to bed with illness.  The establishment of Founer's Day celebrations are still discussed, although no definitive plans have been made.  A holiday on the Friday after Thanksgiving is requested.  Money is collected to purchase a Great Dane to serve as the school's mascot.

Dickinsonian, November 6, 1930

The sophomore class captures the leader of the freshman class on the eve of the freshman Halloween party. The Macbeth performance drew a full house with more than one hundred of these guests coming from out of town. At a faculty meeting it is decided that Thanksgiving break will be extended to include the weekend after Thanksgiving, therefore omitting Saturday classes for this break. Robert Lavanture of the senior class and the Inter-fraternity Council is elected to attend the National Inter-fraternity Council.

The long-awaited Junior Prom is revived and made open to the entire campus, as well as alumni. It is the only all-college formal planned for the semester. Alpha Sigma Gamma, an honorary journalistic fraternity, elects four new members. Phi Beta Kappa initiates four new members as well. Clayton Going succeeds Arthus Bouton, fellow Dickinson student, as president of the Pennsylvania Association of College Students. Students protest the possibility of changing the Dickinson "Red Devils" to the "Colonials" by the Athletic Council.
