Dr. William W. Edel will retire by March 1959 after 12 years as Dickinson's president. Similarly, Dr. Frank Ayres, head of the Math Department, announced that he will resign from Dickinson after 30 years of teaching. The Physics Department will receive a new department head, Dr. Henry Lincoln Yeagley, who comes from teaching at Penn State for 37 years. The "New South" snack bar opens in South College, featuring the special "Mermaid's Delight": a sponge cake with ice cream, chocolate sauce, whipped cream and a cherry.

Presidential candidate Senator Eugene McCarthy drew thousands of dollars to his campaign speech in Baltimore. 206 students earned the Dean's List honor over the last semester. Dickinson professor Enrique Martinez is set to take a trip to Spain, the "mother country". State Senator Van Sant claims that student scholarships will continue. An article by John Harley profiles Dr. Henry Yeagley, a former physics professor at Penn State and an "outstanding personality" at Dickinson at the present time, and his 1932 pronouncement that seatbelts would revolutionize car safety.

Campus Chest, Dickinson's only charitable organization, opens its funding drive with Luau. The student body prefers a fall delivery of the Microcosm. Faculty Frantics, led by Prof. Henry Yeagley, are scheduled to perform this night. Dickinson is set to host the regional Workshop of the United States Student Press Association.
