Art Exhibit

The college's 175 anniversary celebration begins. Attorney General of the United States, Tom Clark, gives an address stressing the importance of both a strong education system and military for creating lasting peace. President William Edel addresses alumni, expressing a commitment to making Dickinson the "best small college possible" by expanding facilities and asking for $750,000 in donations to make this possible. Dickinson confers 10 honorary degrees to prominent guests. Sixteen floats from college organizations participate in a historical parade.

In this issue, Rush Week of 1962 closed with 190 fraternity affiliations, resulting in a Dickinsonian editorial praising the new rush process instituted by the Interfraternity Council. Dr. Howard L. Rubendall announced that Althouse was to receive a rooftop observatory. Dr. George Shuman, Jr., resigned as the college's development director. The Baltimore Symphony Orchestra is to play at Carlisle High School as part of Dickinson's Cultural Affair series. An agent from the Peace Corps will visit the college in order to talk to interested students.

This edition reports that the Military Ball and Parents' Day have been scheduled. The Military Ball will have an international theme. The Mermaid Players production of "Our Town" is reviewed. In the Mock Election, Johnson scored 66% of the vote to Goldwater's 34%. IFC pledges $150 to the Humanities Fund Drive. Professor Ferdinando Maurino continues his series on Spain. A new fitness program is announced. A display of Italian etchings opens in Bosler Hall. Indian student Romir Chatterjee is profiled. Dr.

Homecoming plans are announced. Dean Ness is selected as Humanities Chair. Jazz trombonist J. J. Johnson to perform on November 7. Phi Kappa Psi celebrates centennial. The Microcosm is used to investigate graduates. The music department will present "Amahl" and "Die Fledermaus." Three seniors are selected by ROTC to be top ranking officers. A new art exhibit, "The Heroic Encounter", will be presented. Freshman class officer nominations are announced. Historian Basil King gives talk on the history of New Zealand. New placement services are announced.
